Run
Comments: I'm suspicious about the mile marker placement. I started off the race in the front. The field was fairly large today. I took off and purposely tried to keep my pace down to my average and not rabbit out. I REALLY DID. My average mile pace for a 5K is 6:14, but at the first mile the lady yelling out times said 5:36. NO FRACKING WAY! I don't think I can go that fast falling off a cliff. I kept the pace and only had to do one short hill. Mile 2 was at 6:28, which makes me think something was wrong with the mile markers. I held the pace and even had enough to push it late in the last mile. Mile 3 was 6:10, but from there I could see the finish line, which was longer than a TENTH of a MILE away. I picked up the pace just a tad to ward off anyone behind me getting any ideas of passing me, and headed in. MAN it was humid, I was sweating a swimming pool. It's hard to believe how much you can hurt after such a short race, but I was wipped out. I met Mary, Erin and Conor and we walked around for a bit, grabbing food and watching the other runners come in. What would you do differently?: Nothing, my training seems to be coming along well. It's really getting to me mental at this point. How much pain am I willing to endure for one of these races? My body seems like it can be pushed harder if I'm willing to pay the price, but I'm not far off my limit, cause it hurts plenty already. Post race
Warm down: Grab some water bottles and drink/spit water all over while giving Conor some water to spit with me. What limited your ability to perform faster: The mental challenge of putting up with just a tad more pain to see a better time, but I'm really getting close. Event comments: It was nice to go to a race this size so close to home. They had a pancake breakfast after the race, but I'm just not into eating that soon after running. A few more months of this kind of training should tell the tale of my potential. Mannnnn, I was so close to being first in AG...I gotta keep pushing don't I? Last updated: 2007-06-10 12:00 AM

Got up at 7ish, had some Honey Nut Cheerios, gathered family and drove the entire 4 miles to the race.
Signed up for the race and jogged around looking at the strange gaggle of participants.
