Swim
Comments: Swim portion felt very good. Swam freestyle 100% with little to no breaks (other than see where I was in the pack). Being my first Tri - I was curious what it would be like with 400+ limbs thrashing around. No problems, minimal "kicked in the head". Breathing: Every 2nd stroke (Right, Left, Breathe, R, L, B...) Only took breath on right side. What would you do differently?: Work on breathing to increase efficiency - Right, Left, Right, Left, Breathe... Transition 1
Comments: T1 was very slow - especially considering no wet suit! Dry feet extensively (did not want wet/sandy feet blisters on my first Tri). Put on shirt, socks, shoes, helmet, sunglasses, camelback. Shoes were the longest delay. Ate 1/2 cliff bar. What would you do differently?: Get velcro MTB'ing shoes. My shoes are lace-up with a felt flap and velcro over. Very timestaking. Bike
Comments: Moderately technical/difficult MTB course. Passing was difficult on singletrack. "Larry" pushed me for the last 2-3 miles. Thanks! Ate Gu after 1st loop. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Got complacent behind rider I felt was at my pace - should have pushed more. Transition 2
Comments: Changed out of MTB t-shirt, into running T-shirt with number - unnecessary. Shoe swap was quick. What would you do differently?: Overall need to practice transitions. Could have shaved 2 minutes off total time with proper planning and more "Tri-Firendly" MTB shoes. Wear same shirt. Run
Comments: Run felt good. Started run talking to "Larry" who pushed me on the MTB portion and T2. Ran with him for 2 miles and pulled ahead at that point. Difficult trail run - felt better than training runs. Quads burning at 5 mile mark. Passing people on the trail was motivating! Run is my strength. Ate Gu at 3 mile mark. What would you do differently?: Start more aggressive - possibly carry water. Post race
Warm down: Panting :) Drank Gatorade, high-5'd Larry, hugged girl-friend, jumped in lake, ate watermelon! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep? But didn't feel tired - until about 1 hour after race. Event comments: Thanks Elite Endeavours for making my first Tri so memorable! All of the volunteers were extremely helpful, course was very fun and challanging, fellow racers were AWESOME! Everyone pushed and pulled eachother to the finish line! Not enough sleep (about 5 hours), too excited for my first Tri!
Woke Up: 5:45
Breakfast: 1 Egg over Medium on Whole Wheat Toast, glass of Green Goodness (Bolthouse Farms), Banana on the way to race
6:20-7:05: Drive to race
7:10-7:25: Realize I forgot my helmet, freak out, get helmet from race staff lost and found. Eat apple.
7:30: Jump in lake, listen to pre-race announcments
Little to none - jump in lake. Some stretching. Get transition area in order.
