Pre-race routine:

out of bed...soy shake and bannana
show-up approx 1.5 hrs before start
Event warmup:

in water maybe 50-meters
Swim
  • 11m 55s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

felt pretty decent, seemed to get caught in a group that was going slower than I wanted and couldn't get around them until the turnaround, at that point I felt I was in a pretty good pace.
What would you do differently?:

get out a little faster
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

this was way too slow, even condirring the approx 100 yards from the lake to the TZ. Once at TZ I inhaled a gel pack and drank before getting on bike..also cleaned sand from my feet and put on socks.
What would you do differently?:

No socks...no eating in TZ
Bike
  • 35m 2s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 23.41 mile/hr
Comments:

felt strong for entire bike. I think I could go faster as I never felt I pushed my HR as high as I should have. My legs just didn't seem to have much more.
What would you do differently?:

don't let myself drop into a comfort level
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

this went better than the first one but still too much time spent in TZ. I would like to get under a minute...I don't know how these guys do it in 30-40 seconds!
What would you do differently?:

?
Run
  • 22m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

felt strong, last mile was faster than the first.
Post race
Warm down:

drank water...that's about it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first tri of the season. I don't think I was as focused as I could have been...especially going through the transitions.

Event comments:

This is the first time I have used my HR monitor for a triathlon. Not sure I would do that again as it was somewhat of a distraction. Also, I was surprised to see my average HR as low as it was. I've maintained a higher HR on tempo runs and training rides than what I held for the tri.

Most importantly is get through the transitions faster! I think I should easily take 1 - 2 minutes off my overall time with a little work in this area.
