Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 5/18
Pre-race routine:

Ate half a bagel with peanut butter two hours before and downed a gel 10 minutes before the swim.
Event warmup:

Walked around the transition area.
Swim
  • 14m 46s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Since I did not have a sleeveless wetsuit I decided to go without.I know I lost about a minute but my transition was faster. Our wave of Men over 40 was the most crowded wave so it got a little crowded and bumpy at the start and the first buoy. After that everybody settled and it was an uneventful swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

I had the fastest T1 in my age group but I had a hard time clipping in my left shoe after the mount/dismount line.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 47m 31s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Generally speaking I took the bike easy because I was doing this race for fun and to be together with my son.The course was hilly two loop with excellent surface. It was labeled as 14 miles but it was a little over 15 miles total according to more than one computer.
What would you do differently?:

I would push harder if this would be my A race and possibly cut down close to 2 minutes.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

I took my sweet time in T2
What would you do differently?:

be faster...
Run
  • 28m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Suffered and did not feel good and did not want to push myself.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster and suffer more.
Post race
Warm down:

Got in shade and try to get my body temp. down and drink some fluids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Doing the race just for fun and not pushing myself harder. I was sick a week before and was in maintenance mode as far as training cycle goes.

Event comments:

They have to be honest with their course description and not call a very hilly run course flat in order to attract beginners and more people.
