Swim
Comments: First open water swim, about 40 people in first wave (elites and collegiates). Stroke Technique: Need to practice lots more. Breathing: Need to practice breathing/sighting coordination/pattern Body Position: Dragging legs too much. Drafting: Not enough, difficult to gain position especially since I was not having the easiest time sighting and very murky water. Overall: Needs lots more practice. Transition 1
Comments: Swam as far as possible because of slippery concrete. Rose out of water and started running. Began removing cap and goggles immediately, trouble with cap. Ran to rack. Put sunglasses on, flat pack in back pocket, helmet on, bike unracked. Ran to exit. Stopped after mount line to mount bike. Began pedaling, could have had in lower gear perhaps. Lots of trouble getting into shoes. Had to slow down significantly for a long period. Wasted atleast 1-2 minutes. What would you do differently?: Start running, then worry about goggles and cap, especially when a wet suit isn't involved. Wider strides to help warm up legs for bike. Practice mounting and entering shoes. Bike
Comments: The bike started out poorly with a poor mounting and trouble getting into shoes. The bike the whole way felt pretty tough, had to push surprisingly low gears for how flat the course was. It felt like there was a decent wind though. Legs felt tough the whole way, like I was straining them at some points. Probably should have picked up cadence. What would you do differently?: Need to strengthen my biking in training. Just will take a lot of training. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't do flying dismount. Ran with bike shoes on. Re-racked bike. Ran with gatorade bottle for short bit, messy and inneficient. Probably should do a gel at this point. Practice lifting legs and widening stride from the get go to ease more quickly into the run. What would you do differently?: Practice flying dismounts for starters. Running with bike shoes is slow and tears up cleats. Run
Comments: Run course was completely flat, single loop, constantly seeing other runners, which was helpful. There was water and gatorade every mile on the course. Simply put, I'm not a strong runner. Feet began to go numb at mile 5. Maybe because laces were too tight. What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done differently, my running just isn't the strongest. Need to train a lot more for this portion of the race. Post race
Warm down: Walked a lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience and need to train more. I did the best I could and the race went very well. Event comments: An absolutely wonderful race! The course was well layed out and is a very attractive area. The lake, though murky is calm and warm. There were not too many people in each wave. The swim course was well marked and there were plenty of volunteers. A perfect lake for those timid about open water swimming, but great for those who want to put in a fast swim time. The bike course was smooth and well managed with great volunteers at every turn. The scenery gets tiring on the bike though (corn and lots of it) The run course was great with enthusiastic volunteers at all the water/gatorade stations which are a mile apart. Both the gatorade and water were ice cold which is great. The finish area was terrific, with volunteers handing out cold towels and power ade at the finish. There was also tons of great food at the finish. A TERRIFIC TRIATHLON FOR EVERYONE FROM BEGINNERS TO THE EXPERIENCED. Last updated: 2007-06-14 12:00 AM

Registered night before race.
Arrived at race site 5:45 AM.
Checked bike, pumped tires, etc.
Entered transition after recieving chip.
Set up transition as close to isle and exit as possible. After setting up, had to bounce between car and transition for a couple of things I forgot.
Got numbered, had to have Dad go over because of sloppy numbering.
Insufficient stretching and warm-up. Could use pre-race routine to warm up legs. Swim sufficient to warm up arms.
