Swim
Transition 1
Comments: Heels of the shoes rolled in, so had to adjust for a coupld of hundred meters What would you do differently?: practice getting shoes on Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good - legs felt really fresh and I felt comfortable. Passed a lot more people than passed me. What would you do differently?: Drink - don't think I drank enough!! wasn't really hot and I probably didn't think that I needed to be drinking. Got bottle holder on the back of my saddle now so hopefully will be abel to carry something like gat end in addition to water and nutrition Transition 2
Comments: Rode with feet on shoes, but came to a stop and then straddled over bike. Definitely was a long way to my rack, so was glad I didn;t have to run in bike shoes! Big improvement from last year What would you do differently?: ? Run
Comments: Hmmm - forgot to put bodyglide on inside of biceps - chafed pretty badly during the swim, but didn't notice until the run. Got going and as my biceps passed over my suit they felt like they were on fire - it pretty much sucked - got to first aid station and had water and a gel then moved on, as they didn;t have vaseline. ended up having to put my thumbs inside my suit to stop my arms from rubbing and chafing even more. Got to the second aid station and from about 25m away I spotted a huge jar of vaseline. I wrapped paper towel around my hand and threw 2 big scoops under my arms - it felt awesome. So that made me feel better and I got running pretty well to about mile 4. Then with wet socks and shoes I started to feel a blister on the ball of each foot developing. by mile 5 it was like someone sticking nails in my feet - it hurt. Kept on going though and was reminded how lucky I had when i passed Major David Rozelle and the turn around! - got to mile 8 and I had to really slow down - felt sick and the gels that I was taking suddenly tasted horrible. Had had 2 on the run. Didn't feel good at all. I think it was not drinking enough on the bike catching up with me and needing some real food. Then got passed by Brian Breen and I saw his Blazeman shirt and that made me push on to the end - lost a lot of time over the last 5 miles. Was really hoping to go sub 5:30 - next time What would you do differently?: Drink on the bike - take some sort of solid food - glide on the feet or make sure socks are dry when starting run. Why blisters? never had that happen before Bodyglide arms!! Post race
Warm down: Stretched on the ground a bit and sat next to Pip Taylor, Mirinda Carfrae and Richie Cunningham! Pretty awesome What limited your ability to perform faster: Run - weight - nutrition/hydration Event comments: Awesome weekend. From meeting Desiree Ficker, Troy Jacobsen, to seeing Mirinda Carfrae, Richie Cunningham, Chris Legh, Luke Bell to good hotel, great pre race - Blazeman dedication event - Major David Rozelle Can't wait till next year!!
