Pre-race routine:

Had breakdfast at my brother's then we rode about 2 1/2 miles into town. Wathced the parade then wandered over to transition and got set up. Laid down on the grass in the park and rested for awhile then chatted with several friends who were racing. Pretty laid back.
Event warmup:

Swam across the lake (400 yards) to the start.
Swim
  • 07m 1s
  • 380 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

There was a decent wind chop coming from the right which kind of kept it interesting. Caught a couple good drafts toward the middle of the lake and then started passing quite a few people the last 200 yards.
What would you do differently?:

Not bad considering I haven't swam that much this spring. Felt pretty decent.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

My best T1 ever I think. Got up the hill from the water pretty quickly, suit came off fast, shoes on and out pretty fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Happy with this transition.
Bike
  • 33m 30s
  • 12.15 miles
  • 21.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty strong headwind in some places on the outbound half but then we had a tail wind for about the last 3-4 miles which helped even it out a bit. I pushed pretty hard today and felt it most of the ride. I'm not in near as good of shape as I was for this race last year so the bike took more out of me.
What would you do differently?:

Just need more miles but that's ok since I'm planning my season to peak in November. This was an ok ride considering my conditioning.
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

Quick in and out of T2. Today's transitions were my best ever.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew this wasn't going to be a very good run and it wasn't. Haven't been running a whole lot yet this year, since I plan on peaking in November so this was just a get-what-I-can run and it would have to do.
What would you do differently?:

Again, just a matter of more miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out around the finish, ate watermelon and drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough miles, especially running.

Event comments:

I got to race with my brother in his first race ever!! That was really cool, even though he trashed me! I won't spoil his RR here but he did fantastic, to say the least! I'm really proud of him!
This race has is getting bigger and more competitive every year. The winning time this year was 50 minutes. Not too shabby for a little race in a little town. This is always a good first race of the year.
