Pre-race routine:

Just try and relax
Event warmup:

Very little stretching
Swim
  • 16m 38s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was really happy with my ability to stay relaxed. Changed sides for breathing a few times but stuck to breathing every two strokes.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to flip turn and not stop to ask what lap I was on. Goggles fogged so I couldn't see the marker for last lap.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

1st time out of the pool after a 750 swim (didn't do any swim to bike bricks). I was a little wobbly. It was raining like crazy and I hadn't planned out what to step on to keep feet dry. Had trouble with my Helmut buckle, forgot to do shoes and getting my bike gloves on in the rain was brutal.
What would you do differently?:

No socks, no gloves. Run to the bike. Run the bike to the mount line
Bike
  • 44m 40s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.86 km/hr
Comments:

I thought I made time. Both transitions are lumped in with he bike so it's hard to be accurate. Took it easy on the downhill and corners due the rain. Checked my bike computer and total riding time was 44 minutes and that includes a little time to and from the parking lot so I was cruisin'pretty good.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Better transition but again, not used to running with the bike. Then I turned the wrong way. Took the time to put on new socks and the 50m out of 100 was under water so soaked anyway.
What would you do differently?:

no socks, a little more quickness.
Run
  • 25m 50s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 10s  min/km
Comments:

Felt ok. Started slow and got my heart rate down. 2nd half almost exactly same pace as first.
What would you do differently?:

Run through the mud instead of around.
Post race
Warm down:

None...ate some fruit

Event comments:

Couldn't start on time because of weather plus they were waiting for the Police at intersections. I didn't even see a drink station but it didn't matter in this weather.

Given all the factors, I couldn't be happier with the result. I almost hit my training times and in the case of the bike was quickest yet (I'm sure skinny tires helped). Biggest accomplishment was swimming the 750m without stopping and swimming in a respectable time.
