Pre-race routine:

Had a lousy night sleep. Didn't sleep till 1:30am or so. Up at 5:00. Had a bowl of cereal and some coffee. Pumped tires and packed water. 5:30 headed down to event. I road my bike there. It's about a mile.
Marked and chipped. They were filling in the racks first come next in. Didn't get a bad spot. Close to Ken and Kam. Opposite my sister. Wandered around some said good morning to the gang.

Event warmup:

Took my sister out for a run to calm her down some. It helped her. Drank some of Ron's coffee. Finally got in the water. Sprinted around some in short spurts. Pee'd in my suit oops. Hehehe

Comments:

Really a pain in the a$$. Half the crowd was dolphining. I started up front. This was definitely a faster crowd this year. The problem was
for the fist 400 yds I always had someone duck diving or trangling arms with me. After runding the first bouy things thinned out. Swam prety much up to the shore line. The guys standing up ahead of me were in no hurry to get out and had to pick my way through them. Com'on it's a race. Ran well to T1. Hate that gravel!
What would you do differently?:

Ask for more rain. The low water make the swim slow.

Comments:

That wasn't much better then usual. Got out of suit OK. Then the supid socks. Ugh gotta learn to ride without them. I did a poor job of putting shoes on and had to stop and adjust toungue and straps. BIL Ron was cheering me on.
What would you do differently?:

NOT WEAR SOCKS.
30 slower

Comments:

The bike felt great. I had fun. For once I wasn't being passed non-stopped. Did pass a lot of the group ahead of us. Mostly mtn bikes but some roadies. The hill felt good but I think I was a little slow. Race booty fair. Didn't really have a chance to talk to anyone. Encourage a bunch of people on my way by. There was a marshall going by every couple mies or so. Nice to see.
What would you do differently?:

Loose the wgt that graviy has such fun with. Maybe add a little more gatorade to my mix seemed weak. Bike fitting to help make me a little more comfortable.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

I forgot that I had taped the vent holes on the bottom of my shoes. I thought about it a couples of time, didin't pull it off. My socks were soaked water and sweat. Had trouble slipping my foots into shoes. Drank a little. Stipped bike jersey and ran out with shirt in hand. Got a little boost from Fred Arden cheering us on. Shirt on, hat on no sweat.
What would you do differently?:

Socks,socks, socks the evil socks.

Comments:

It sucked. Felt good the first mile or so, even passed a couple peoples. Coming up the foot bridge I felt a twinge in my back. Low left side. starting down the other side it cleared. Soon it came back. Hit the pavement which felt better. I remember what that 7:30 mile fel like the other day but couldn't reproduce it. Passed Ridgelake He was doing well and looked like he was having fun. This year I didn't get passed by my AG until the last 1/2 mile. Then 2 went by me I had nothing left to try and chase them down.
What would you do differently?:

The ore I think about it I need to adjust the bike some how. If I'm in the aero to much it has an effect on my run. I know I'm dragging arund too much wgt. That's the problem I need to work on hard over the winter. I have no one to blame but myself.
Post race
Warm down:

Met BIL Roy at finish line. Drank some. Grabbed some ice and hit the calves with it. That felt good. No back pain all gone ???. Walked a little and watched for finishers. Got to see Tam come by. Her finish line words were "Man that run is tough". Tried to get a hold of Y. Talked to Bob a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My fat eff'ing gut!! Basically I'm a clydedale. I need to dump 30 lbs over the winter.
Bike fit. I could use a new bike but you know you get attached to them.
Not fall off my ike to interrupt training.
The hip did OK. I can't c/o of any pain. Might have thrown back off some.

Event comments:

It will be a while before I feel good about this race. It is a PB but not by much. I'm taking this week off from training. I have next weekend with my bother away fishing and drinking in the 1000 Islands. Really need to start packing. I have a du on the 21st October.

I appriciate the company of my follow BTer's and master swimmers. My sisiter finishing her first tri strong is a good thing. Congrates to Bob and Kam for placing in there AG's. Anyone else who did too. Thanks to Julie and Mikes hospitality and to those who bought raffle tickets.
