Pre-race routine:

Had a whole day off. Because of this, I really took my time shaving my legs, paying careful attention not to miss any spots on my stupid knees. Missed a couple spots on my knees. Had a venti bold from starbucks, had a rice crispy cube, had a grande bold from starbucks, had some pretzels. Got to Tour de Terramuggus @ 5 oclock. Walked around a bit. Set up transition. BSed with fellow BTers. Dropped a pound of body weight in the painted finding nemo underworld of the public restrooms. Checked everything over and waded over into the shallows of the mighty lake T.
Event warmup:

None.

12 out of 126
So Im standing there waiting and I have to listen to Polly's infamous 76 talking for about 3 minutes. I start to become so annoyed I feel like I am going to vommit. "Oh I plan on winnging the swim then just taking it easy on the bike" ok, just shut up and listen to the RD already. The water is like bath water. He blows his wistle and were off. I make my first and not final mistake of the day. I get on 76s feet. I try like my life depended on it to stay there. As did brazil and 3 or 4 other guys. I get dropped like a bad habit after 100 yards. I am exausted from the effort. Moving my arms in the water becomes dificult, breathing becomes dificult, my stroke is horrendous. Finally the bouy. I have no feet in frot of me. I start to feel tapping at my feet. Spectacular. Finally I finish. I feel really tired like I don't even feel like runing out of the water. I muster up a shuffle and run over to my bike.
What would you do differently?:

LOL. I have no idea. Swim more i guess?
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition feels fast. Of course I have Rob the jockey practically whipping me like a horse to go faster. I get all my stuff and I run with it. After going over what seemed like a thousand tree roots I finally get my bike to the road. 3 other guys are there. They take their time, they stop, they get on, they lock one foot in, they go, slowly. This is the only part of the race I feel like I accomplished something positive. I run through the gate (wheres my jockey?) while running I jump on my bike, my foot lands on the pedal and clips in (pure luck) and i leave 3 dudes in the dust.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Good Transition.

33 out of 126 would have been top 5 on the bike if I hadnt...
Ah the bike. I come out of transition and immediately start hammering. My legs are like deadweight from the swim and I try to spin to bring them back to life. I go over some brook that smells like a garbage disposal at a fishermans market. phew, did anyone else smell this? I climb, poorly. I climb some more.. a little better. Oh I am still in the big ring. Nice job dum dum. I decide to go down to the small ring bout 50 feet from the top of the hill. Bad Idea. I switch gears. Wow this just got alot easier, how come i am not going anywhere? riiiiing riiinig riiiiing. I look down and to my extreme joy I see my chain has come off. Spectacular. I have fleeting thoughts of being like Petachi and reaching down flicking my chain back on. LOL, no way. I slow down from my whopping 11 mph pace and get off. I try 5 times to get the chain back on as quick as I can. nothing. OK, take your time reject. I take my time and whahlah. By this time I am already passed by about ten people. I go from top 10 (accorinding to the beautiful volunteer at the turn in town) to 16. I start getting into it. Kind of. We make our way passed the entrance and to loop 2. I hear my jockey whipping me on. I fly around the corner and passed the seafood market brook and up my hated little section of hills. Here is where the peleton of the Tour de Terramuggus flies by me. No I am already bitter about dropping my chain and I usually don't really care too mcuh about people drafting. For some reason when this peleton passed me it stuck some anger nerve deep inside me. They werent even being discreet about it. I mean, they were like and inch off each others wheel. I yell out, guess you guys don't care about drafting? No response. OK. New mission. I MUST pass all those in that peleton on the run. MUST. I stay about 1/2 mile away from them for the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my chain or feel like shit after the swim. Maybe bring a little water.

I dismount. I start running with my bike. I miss the timing mats. DOH. It is amateur hour at Lake T, I'll be here all week, try the veal. Quick transition. Kicks on. Start to run.
What would you do differently?:

Not miss the timing mat.

I pick off one drafter in the woods. I am the terminator. The first sarah conner just bit the dust. Sarah2 is right out of the woods and in the street. Sarahs,3,4, and 5 are on the first hill. Sarahs 6 and 7 are over by seths house on the downhill. My stomach is burning and I pass a couple more sarahs and finally we come out into the in town turn around. The beautiful volunteer yells to me 16th male. Ok I see 3 more people up the road I can easily catch. One, two, three. I catch them. The last guy I was trying for was just out of my reach. This is always the wierdest part of the race for me. I have one mile to go. I can physically run harder but I just don't. I don't get it. We come down the hill and I sprint. Kind of. I look behind me. No one is going to catch me. I wasn't passed by one person in the run and I am proud of that.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, run harder I guess.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran through the mat. kicked off my kicks. collapsed into lake t.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't know. I think was doomed from the first 100 yrds of the swim.
