Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m 9s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/54
Pre-race routine:

Same as usual - Drank my pre-race potion 2.5 hours prior to race. Took a gel pack and caffeine tablet 10 minutes prior to race
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 13m 23s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

First 200 meters was like a bar fight but once it spread out I felt good. Swim time is a little misleading becasue there was a very long uphill run to the transition area and the timing mat. That probably added 30 seconds at least.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Tranisiton area was large and on a hill. Going out on the bike meant running downhill in my cleats (I have not pefected putting shoes on the pedals yet). Still, it wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it might be. I like to put socks on in T1 rather than T2 so that might add a few seconds.
Bike
  • 33m 41s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 22.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty tough at first with the hills but since it's an out and back there is a net elevation gain of zero. Coming back you could really turn up the speed.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I didn't get my shoes off while on the bike in time so I had to run in the transition area with my cleats on. Then I couldn't find my rack position and that wasted time.
What would you do differently?:

Scout rack position for T2 prior to race.
Run
  • 23m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Once again I had a crappy run. The truth is I am in so much discomfort on the run that it's all I can do to maintain a steady pace.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to do more running and get used to the pain.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank Endurox R4 fruit punch flavor.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inability to deal with pain on run so I could run faster. I could also have picked up about a minute in transitons.

Event comments:

Blue Sky puts on a very good race. It's well run and you have every opportunity to go out there and perform. This race had the following characteristics:
1. Long uphill run to T1
2. Large transition area (500 participants) on a rather steep hill.
3. Long steady uphill for first two miles of the bike.
4. Rolling hills on the run
