Swim
Comments: The timing system for splits had some problems so I didn't get my splits although by my watch I had 6:29 of pool time and was at my rack at 7:15. I was in the novice group and we didn't even start until everyone was gone. It made for lonely racing, but the good news was the pool was empty and calm, I only had two people to pass and the two in front of me were much faster so I had an open pool the whole way. What would you do differently?: A short distance so I don't think I'd do anything differently. If it were longer I may have to relax and pace a little better. Transition 1
Comments: I was winded when I got to the rack and it probably had to do with the swim. I got on my socks and shoes, helmet and shades and ran the bike down. Basically went pretty well. What would you do differently?: Don't know, other then practice breathing on the run down to the transition area. Bike
Comments: I'd driven the course the day before and probably psyched myself out because it seemed very hilly, with a couple of long uphill portions. I set out and don't have shoes and clip pedals and had a hard time getting my feet in the straps so i pedaled without them in until I got going pretty good and finally was able to get them strapped in. Set out and got into a pretty good rhythm. Got passed fairly early by two guys that looked like strong riders and wasn't too upset. I passed a few people. Then about half way through the ride I had two guys pass me and got pissed. I decided then that they wouldn't leave me and I kept them in sight the remainder of the ride. It may have hurt me for the run but I beat my goal on the ride by 2 1/2 minutes by the event time, but by 5 minutes on my watch. By my watch I did the ride in 45 minutes. What would you do differently?: Just keep training and getting better in this area. I improved a lot from my first triatlon at Lake Murray which I did in 55 minutes for 16 miles. Transition 2
Comments: OK. I had my shoes on. All I had to do was remove helmet, rack bike, put on visor and get a sip of gatorade then go. What would you do differently?: nothing, except maybe drink more. Run
Comments: See course description as I'm not typing it again. What would you do differently?: Drink plenty of fluid in the morning. I also need to force myself to drink on the bike but I haven't been able to do it. I just can't seem to do it without getting choked up. I'll force myself next time, but I believe if I had the run would have gone a lot better. I trained to run much better than I did. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the infield and mingled with all of the people. What limited your ability to perform faster: I've been battling a sinus infection for about 3 weeks now. I've done the antibiotic, and leading up to the race was doing a lot of natural stuff recommended by my wife. My head is still clogged, but I feel ok. My left ear popped the whole run. Event comments: The race was pretty good. I've only competed in two so I don't have a lot to compare it against. Everything went smoothly, although I'm disappointed that the timing system had issues and I don't have a swim time and about 200 people don't have cycle times. Other than that it was well run, great tshirts, and a lot of people working on the bike course which went over and through some pretty heavy traffic areas. Last updated: 2007-06-22 12:00 AM

Went out the night before and had a calzone and a couple of draft beers. The company and food were good but I think it was a mistake and I'll describe later. Went to bed around 10, slept ok till 3 then was pretty much up the rest of the night. Got up at 5 and got dressed and headed out. Had a banana and a half of bagel, cup of coffee, and some gatorade. Got to the site and got set up and met some friends and waited to begin.
Didn't do any warm up. The swim was a pool swim and I had a long wait, about an hour so I watched everyone swim and cheered for some of my friends in the pool.
