Swim
Comments: This was my second sprint tri, so my goal was to cut my times in every area. Compared to my last go around, I felt much more relaxed in the water and only had to break stride when I glanced up a couple of times to see where I was going. Our wave didn't end up spreading out much, so I had to try to maneuver myself around several people. Once again the run from the beach to transition was brutal (probably 1/4 mile). The race coordinators did not begin the T1 time until we entered the transition area which was different from the last race. My swim was at least a minute quicker than before, but my time doesn't reflect that because of the long run to transition. Not too happy about that change. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on speed. I pushed harder this race but still felt like I had some left at the end. Transition 1
Comments: I was in the first rack at the bicycle exit, so I was on my bike and riding in no time. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Continued to use toe cages, but after today I need to consider investing in cycling shoes and clips. After the ride my shoes were soaked from the water being squeezed from tri shorts and from the sweat running down my legs. Having sloshy shoes made my run grueling to say the least. The ride was okay other than that. I maintained a pace between 18 and 20 mph and couldn't have pushed too much more in anticipation of the big bridge. My speed dipped down to about 9 mph up both sides. The bridge kicked my butt again! What would you do differently?: Spend more time on my bike on open rides in addition to spinning classes. Also need to experiment more being out of the saddle which would probably help my climbs a great deal. At this point, I feel way too shaky to get out of saddle during a race. Transition 2
Comments: My T2 is quick because I already have on my running shoes with cages, but I probably would have felt better in the run with DRY shoes! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Bud jumped in on the run and ran with me. If he hadn't been with me, I probably wouldn't have kept the pace we had going. I think I probably pushed myself in the swim and run more than I thought because the run SUCKED! My legs were, of course, like lead coming out of T2. But even after getting my legs to cooperate, my stomach was a little upset and I got goosebumps from being chilly just before mile 2. Going into my first tri, I assumed my swim was the weakest. Now I'm convinced it's the run! However, with all of that said, I did shave over 2 minutes off my 5K time. What would you do differently?: Log more miles and sprint work. Do more bricks of biking and running outside in the heat and humidity of S. Fla. Post race
Warm down: Drank water and accelerade. Ate a banana and orange slices. Once I got my heart rate and body temp down, I walked around a bit before showering off and changing clothes. We stuck around long enough to get the standings and then headed back up to Hollywood for breakfast at Waffle Works!! It tasted SO good! What limited your ability to perform faster: I still feel like I could have pushed a bit harder in the swim. My run will only get faster and easier with additional training and bricks. Event comments: Overall a pretty good race. The start was delayed by about 10 minutes because a generator which inflated the "start" gate ran out of gas. Not happy with how they timed the swim into T1. Also wish the bike course had been the full 12.5 miles. Last updated: 2007-06-24 12:00 AM

Alarm clock went off at 5am. Ate a bowl of mini wheats. Bud and I left around 5:45 for drive down to Miami. Arrived by 6:15. Had plenty of time to set up transition and take bathroom break. Drank water on the drive down and before warmup.
Swam for 100 yds or so. Jogged a bit on the beach and stretched also.
