Age Group Rank = 13/18
Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate breakfest, packed the car and left.
Event warmup:

Got to the race, racked the bike, registered, went for a short ride. Relized it was getting close to race start so put the wetsuit on did a short warm up in the lake then it was go time. Should of gotten there sooner.
Swim
  • 33m 15s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

The first 200 m I spent breast stroke in a mass of people waiting for it to thin out as everytime I went to swim I would begin to swim over people. Then I had the worst navigation, I spent more time zig-zagging through the course and sighting the wrong bouys.
What would you do differently?:

Seed myself better at the start and learn to swim in a straight line!
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Transition was good, wetsuit got stuck on the one foot with the timing chip but it didn't consume a lot of time. Overall it went well and don't think I could of done anything different.
Bike
  • 1h 31m 52s
  • 43.5 kms
  • 28.41 km/hr
Comments:

Need to get a better bike, my '88 supercycle just doesn't cut it anymore. Also need to work on building my bike speed. The wind sucked, was against us on the way out and for some sections on the way back depending on the direction of the road.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

At first I almost couldn't find where my stuff was. Realized someone else had racked their bike ontop of my stuff! Not cool. Didn't let it bug me though and got out for the run quick.
Run
  • 55m 3s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 30s  min/km
Comments:

Good run, felt strong. Stopped once at the 6.5 k aid station for some water. Around the 7 k mark the lady infront of me did a face plant into the concrete. I stopped to see if she needed help, she was banged up. I helped her up and after a minute she started running again, talk about dedication! Overall the run felt solid and comfortable.
Post race
Warm down:

Straight to the cold shower! Lots of water, some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I did the best I could for today. Don't think there was anything in my ability to change today.

Event comments:

Great race and atmosphere. Was the perfect first Olympic triathlon for me.
