Swim
Comments: With only 3 waves, a little crowded at beginning. I started a little to the outside. A few bumps, a little manuvering around a few swimmers but nothing bad. Never felt I got a real good rythym with normal breathing. I tended to breath more than in training. What would you do differently?: I think I have potential to get faster, I may consider private lessons. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well. What would you do differently?: A little trouble getting legs of wetsuit off at feet. Just need to step on suit and pull. Bike
Comments: Handled big hill well. I actually thought my bike time would be a little better. After hill on way to turnaround my speed seemed to average about 25 mph but I was on cadence display. Way back was into a slight breeze but I my speed stayed around 20 mph. Kept my cadence around 90. Used gears well. I pushed on bike a little harder than in earlier races this year. 1st race with over 20 mph this year. What would you do differently?: Wanted use a gel just past turnaround but couldn't find it in my jersey pocket. I thought I had lost it. Turns out it was there, not sure why I didn't find it while on bike. Transition 2
Comments: I was very suprised at few bikes were in racks when I got to T2. That helped me know I was performing well. What would you do differently?: A little trouble with running shoes. Elastic laces were adjusted ok but extra lace material was loose. Need to make sure laces are good to go pre-race. Run
Comments: No mileage markers on run. Felt like I "got my legs" pretty early. Paced myself well and was able to pick up pace towards end of race, since my energy level was still OK. Post race
Warm down: This was my very first tri last year. It comes after an early June BWCA trip which limits my pre-race training. SAme situation this year. My time was 6:17 better than last year with improvements in all categories. Definitley helped to know the course from the year before. 4/28 was better than expected but time were close to expectations. I would have been 2nd in AG if AG was 50-59. What limited your ability to perform faster: No training from 6/4 to 6/12 due to Buffalo on 6/3 then BWCA trip. Still have a solid base so training gap not much of an issue for a sprint. Event comments: Start was a little late due to big number of race day entrants. Announcement was made, start was about 10 minutes off, no big deal. Great race for the price. Plenty of prizes post race. Mike Torchia from Rochester was overall winner, rest of Torchias raced as well. Also talked to Chris K, Kathy B, Ed Y from Rochester Tri Club.
