Swim
Comments: FINALLY managed not to start out too quickly, and got into a good breathing pattern. Thought I would be last out of the water; didn't find out until the end I actually wasn't! What would you do differently?: Nothing; staying relaxed was the key. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from swim uphill to transition What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Thank heavens I rode the hill course at home a few times. Didn't push too hard 'cause I didn't know how much this would take out of me, so actually could have ridden faster but instead enjoyed the scenery and tried to survive. What would you do differently?: More hills and bricks! I guess this is one of the hardest courses around here, and I had to pick THIS one for my first OLY!!! Transition 2
Comments: No problems. Run
Comments: Gotta find something other than Sharkies to eat; was SO bloated/painful I wish I could've just thrown up so I could get on w/ the run. Couldn't breathe well given belly issues; even downhills hurt! Took forever for legs to loosen up after the bike, but eventually worked out. Reminded myself all I had to do to achieve my goal was finish, so again I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and finished w/ a sprint and not feeling too bad. What would you do differently?: hilly bike/run bricks, different nutritional stuff!!! Post race
Warm down: Cried after crossing the finish line, hugged Amy & my daughters (aka cheerleaders) as well as other girls from work (who did AWESOME in their sprints). Walked, water. In awe that I ACTUALLY DID IT! What limited your ability to perform faster: The usual; need more training (or a flatter course!) Couldn't believe how much my gut slowed me on the run--gotta fix that. Event comments: Beautiful, HARD but good race. I stayed positive thru almost all of it, and that really helped. (also chanting DFL = triathlete!). Reminded myself my goal was just to finish my first OLY (only my 3rd tri, and the end of my rookie season). Got a bit discouraged being passed by SO MANY people, and thought to myself "Someday, that might be me..." Not today. But I'll keep tri-ing! Last updated: 2007-06-26 12:00 AM

The usual crappy pre-race sleep. Breakfast was PB&J and diet pepsi (breakfast of champions), followed by Starbucks raspberry mocha. A lot of "what the h*ll was I thinking, signing up for this????
Managed to wriggle into wetsuit in time to get in a swim (200yds) beforehand. After driving the course the night before and seeing the MONSTER hills, I had to keep reminding myself to keep my mind only on the moment and not the HELL that was coming!
