Comments:

Looking forward to setting a 5K PR on this same course at the Mohawk 5K next week.
What would you do differently?:

Overcast at this point - I didn't need sunglasses.
Transition 1

Comments:

I got to the event way too early and picked the best possible spot in transition. The bike-in and bike-out were at the same entrance - and my bike was right on the end.
What would you do differently?:

Is it worth the 30 second savings to learn to leave shoes clipped in and put them on after already on the course? For me, no, it's not.

Comments:

I saw no less than two falls. No one was seriously injured. I was passed immediately by three riders. A fourth and fifth passed on the flat, but I made up for it and got them back on the hill coming back. That's the advantage of weighing 20-50 less than most of the other riders. I nearly bit it in the groove between the shoulder and road while passing, and again near the end on chewed-up Memorial Dr. One more rider passed me on Memorial right before the camera man near transition.
What would you do differently?:

I worry about stupid things sometimes. I was passed right before the camera and didn't want to look like I was drafting (maybe he waited to pass to get a photo record of it :) Anyway, I immediately exited the space behind him without looking and hit a pile of rocks that sent my back wheel all wobbly. Only by the grace of God did I not crash.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Running shoes were water-logged and felt like they weighed 20 pounds each.
What would you do differently?:

Have a waterproof covering for shoes if it may rain.

Comments:

Held back on first part of run with soreness in lower right leg. After the turn-around I got a second wind. I passed everyone back who passed me on the bike. Of course I didn't know about this or really care until I looked at the times and saw my finishing place was the same as after the first run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain, and as always, training.

Event comments:

Despite the lack of port-a-johns, this was well-organized and fun. I look forward to doing it next year.

Course: Straight and fairly flat out and back. One long hill in the middle. The downpour hit about a mile in and lasted about 20 minutes. Very few crosswinds and few cars. Some headwind on way back. Visibility was never too bad, but at times the rain on my glasses annoyed me. Some of the shoulder was chewed up, and the rain hid some obstacles from view, so staying on the road was necessary for a good portion of the ride.
