Pre-race routine:

2 eggs, a muffin and coffee at the fairfield
Swim
  • 34m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 20s / 100 meters
Comments:

I didn't have a great swim, but at least i beat my big lick time -by 2 mins... I was hoping to finish closer to 30 mins , but whatever. The good news is that I didn't feel tired at all coming out of the water..
What would you do differently?:

I think I could use more time in the pool, just working on my technique
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Transitions have never been my strong point, but I just wanted to get a gel and get on the bike...
What would you do differently?:

I think I can work on my T's, but I wasn't taking it too seriously.
Bike
  • 1h 30m 24s
  • 40 kms
  • 26.55 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

I have been working on my bike, so I was a bit dispapointed in my time, .. but I still think I'm doing better.. hard to compare my time with the only other oly tri i've done - big lick. hydration was good...
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

happy with My T2.. I still could have done better if I had remembered to pin on my race bib... I had to go back and that cost me a good 20-30 seconds at least..
What would you do differently?:

I forgot my race belt , so i had to rely on pins.. I think I can really do a lot better here..
Run
  • 1h 10m 46s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 05s  min/km
Comments:

I of course, came into the race with an ankle injury.. so I was more focused on not being injured than crushing this course... Only twisted my ankle twice and I almost quit, but I pushed myself to keep going. I hooked up with a group of around 3-6 other runners, and although, I am very sure I could have gone a bit faster, I wasn't going to take any chances ... I let some people pass me (probably on their 2nd lap when I was on my first)... Not terribly happy with 1:10, but hey, I finished and I'm still walking...

What would you do differently?:

hopefully go in not injured... running is my strength and I am confident that this time does not reflect my true abilities.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

fitness level on bike and swim.. Injury on run

Event comments:

I didn't take this race too seroiusly, I wanted to assess my fitness level for my 'A' race in September.. I think I know now. Tought course, but I'm very glad I did it. liked the small size in a way, but larger group would have probably helped me not be so close to last.

Course: I thought the bike course was tough, but not as bad as I thought when I drove it the day before... I actually liked the hills, great hill coming right out of the water, and then a pretty decent hill at miles 18.5 and 19.5 and I think I may actually have passed one or two, although most people were already way ahead of me.I tend to ride out of position (over to the left) , but I feel comfortable like that... I would recommend working the hills before doing this course.
