![]() Swim
Comments: Felt good during swim. After swimming what I figured would be about 200 meters and saw I wasn't anywhere close to 1st buoy, knew they had the distance wrong. Got stronger the longer I swam and after passing 1st buoy starting passing more people and felt pretty good when I got out of water. Just shocked to see the time of 22 minutes when I normally take 10.5-11.00. Decided to walk to transition - don't know why - took 2 min. 25 seconds. What would you do differently?: Not too much. With the experience from the last few tri's now want to start puttting some effort into it. Have been taking it slow and comfortable, getting relaxed with people pushing me, me pushing people, passing, etc. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Nothing really. What would you do differently?: Run from water to transition. Maybe start moving a bit faster in transition. I take it pretty methodical. ![]() Bike
Comments: Felt good and strong on the ride. Kind of happy about it after having swam such a long distance for the 1st time. What would you do differently?: Want to practice running and jumping on bike rather than stepping into shoes. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: This was a good transition till I had to put my running shoes on. Forgot to put elastic laces in new shoes and had some difficulty getting shoes on and laces done up. What would you do differently?: Put elastic laces in. ![]() Run
Comments: Ran slow for the first 3/4 km to get a sense of how I was feeling. Hadn't been running much for 3 weeks since I strained groin on backpacking trip. Picked up the pace, walked for a bit just passed 1/2 way mark and ran my strongest the rest of the way. Given lack of training, fact that I'm still coming back from last year's injury AND that I am still walking portion of race, - pace isn't too bad. What would you do differently?: Not too much. From here on in, hope to put more effort in to pick up the pace. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretches, walking around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough run mileage under me yet. Event comments: Beautiful course. Other than problems with the swim set up, event was well organized. There were a number of volunteers but did have difficulty finding one when I wanted. Also had some difficulty locating OAT official because the body marker wanted to write on my long sleeve board shirt that I swim in - OAT official said not necessary since I had a bib # and age on my leg. Had to get up at 4:15 to drive in from Orillia. Rainy, cloudy and cold on the way, but by the time the race started rain stopped and sun was peaking through clouds mid-way through swim. Ate homemade waffles at 5:00, brought from home and kept in freezer; got to site and 6:30. One of the first there. Got set up and reviewed site again. Had been there the night before and drove the bike and run route.
Usual - CP Movement Prep; and a 10 minute swim warm up. I find the swim and the bike warms me up enough for the run. Got down to dock to do swim warm up and the only people there were the lifeguards for the kayaks and the men setting up the course. They said they had 3 courses to set up and had just finished 750. I said our race was starting in about 5 minutes so they should get a move on, jokingly, of course. To make long story short we ended up swimming 750, not 400, although HSBC is only admitting it about 600. However, based on others and my own usual pace, it was 750.
