Comments:

One of these days I'm going to learn to not take off too fast. I always try too hard the start with arms that look like windmills and I don't go anywhere. I slowed down my stroke and thought about good form and was able to start passing other swimmers. Even with starting out like I did, I had a good swim. I do think the swim was long from looking at some of the other swim times.
What would you do differently?:

Start with good form.
Transition 1
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

You had to run 100 feet on sand and gravel before getting to the parking lot. I used a towel to quickly get most of the dirt and rocks off before I put on my shoes. The helmet and sunglasses were next and I was on my way. Didn't have any problems.
What would you do differently?:

I don't think anything
Bike
  • 37m 36s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 21.06 mile/hr
Comments:

It was a good ride. I think I paced myself well for the distance.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

No problems. I was able to rack my bike, remove helmet and put on running shoes without any delays.
Run
  • 20m 43s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

My left calf cramped up in the first 50 feet. I stopped for a brief second to stretch and than started running again. I didn't want to stop or slowdown so I just ran throug the pain. It hurt for the first half mile and felt okay. Didn't stop from water, just grabbed a cup and through it on me to cool me down.
What would you do differently?:

Take salt pills before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and walked around. Found my friends to see how they did and waited to see if I made the podium.

Event comments:

I like this race for its location. I've spent a lot of time training at the lake and this area so it was nice to do it for real.

Course: I wouldn't call this course hilly, but it wasn't flat either. There was a couple of small, steep hills and a long gradual incline heading back in. And was closer to 14 miles than 13.2.
