Swim
Comments: Pretty satisfied. I've learned that just because something does or doesn't work for one race - it means nothing for the next race. After Avalon (front center start from a beach start) I decided to start the wave from the back and navigate through the mass. Took me a little while, but I found an opening along the back end of the course and found my rhythm. Didn't really have a lot of room to spread out. That led to a lot of pummeling. What would you do differently?: In a deep water start, I thing I can try to get out in front - instead of working from the back. next week's race will be a beach start - I will use the "work from the back" strategy for that. Transition 1
Comments: Not much to comment on. T1 ranked #55 out of 354 What would you do differently?: Not much. Run faster through transition. Bike
Comments: Pushed pretty hard today. Still taking too long to get my feet in my shoes and getting up to speed. Even though I was considering this race to be a B/C priority training race (NJ State is my priority A race) - I was really dissappointed with my 18mph pace at Avalon two weeks ago. I think I could have gone harder if the course hadn't been so crowded at certain points. Some slower riders riding all the way on the left. People running across the course to get to the beach, etc. What would you do differently?: More group rides. Transition 2
Comments: no comment. What would you do differently?: run faster through transition. Run
Comments: HAH! Imagine if I could pull off a 7 minute mile average. I would have finished in 1:03. Even an 8 minute mile pace and I'm at 1:06 minutes. Really though, I haven't run since Avalon two weeks ago because I've been nursing a strained hip flexor/groin on my left side - i did not want to push myself with my top prioity race next weekend (NJ State). Walked at first water station. Race belt fell off after statring 2nd mile. Walked again at water station on loop back. Plus I'm just slow anyway. I MIGHT be able to get down to an 8 min pace someday. What would you do differently?: Not get hurt. We'll see how it goes next weekend when i push myself during the run at NJ State. An 1:08/1:09 goal isn't out of reach. Post race
Warm down: Stretch. Water. Shot blocks. Buffet. What limited your ability to perform faster: Left hip flexor and the fact I didn't want to run myself out of competing in the NJ State next weekend. Event comments: Too many friends and family allowed in transition area. Turned into a real bumblef**k at times. Course not being closed probably affected people with their performance - not so much mine. Last updated: 2007-06-29 12:00 AM

Woke up 4:15 AM. Ate my bagel w/ peanut butter, drank some water.
Arrived at the transition area around 5:45 and had my pick of spots. Picked up my race packet and went for a 15 minute jog. Came back grabbed my bike and went out for about 20 minutes. Got into my wetsuit and did about 15 minutes of swimming until the pre-race meeting.
