Comments:

Really starting to enjoy the swim - used to dread it - feel much more comfortable this year- learning to fight for my spot!
What would you do differently?:

Swim a little harder - not worry so much about where the buoy is and just go for it

Comments:

I felt pretty good running out of the water after the swim, lots of energy to use for the rest of the race. As I'm in T1 I hear Rob yell "Come on Ailene" in that, hurry the hell up, this is a RACE you know, voice. So I say, ut-oh, he's right, why am I taking my sweet ass time here? Waddled about 2 miles with my bike then hopped on, clipped right in and went.
What would you do differently?:

Put a little more pep in my step...maybe picture myslef in a race-type situation :)

Comments:

Felt great right up until I started to climb the first hill and memories of the Fairfield Half that I just ran 4 days before came back to me. Sore legs!! Not enought recovery time! Oh well, I told myself I'd push anyway, whether they hurt or not. For some reason, once I'm out of transition and on the back roads, I feel like I'm just on a little joy ride, I felt like I was going in SLOW motion!! I remembered what pace my cycling teammate told me to go at and thought, there's NO way I'm going as fast as I'm supposed to be! There weren't any scary hills, didn't fall off my bike or get a flat. Flew down the hills. The girl at the corner told me I was the 4th woman, so I was psyched, especially because I came in with no expectations. Got passed at the start of the 2nd loop by a bunch of peeps, including some women...now I drop down to 6th...I wasn't gonna let that last for long. Didn't want my high of being the 4th woman to wear off!! I remember thinking towards the end of the bike, It would be so nice if this was the last leg of the race and we didn't have to run!
What would you do differently?:

Not run a 1/2 marathon 4 days before with no recovery days..whoops :) Too pumped up to take time off!!
Transition 2

Comments:

Ran my bike into T2 feeling good and ready to run! Slipped those babies on with no socks and off I went into the woods!
What would you do differently?:

Not much- maybe leave my sunglasses considering it was already after 7:00pm at that point
Run
  • 25m 26s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good - quick flashback of when I used to do bricks in training and not being able to remember when the last time I did one was...whoops..I guess I should incorporate those back into my training..hehe.
I can never gauge how fast I'm running in tris...I feel so slow, but it always turns out I'm moving a lot quicker than it seems. Anyway, I pushed and pushed - spotted the girl in the purple shirt who so easily glided right past me on the bike...ran right past her!! Ran some more. Legs hurt some more. Saw the jacked guy with the girl all in black in front of me. This was my chance to get my spot back! Worked a little harder. Caught ya!! Ran right by those suckers. Now I had to keep my butt moving so they didn't catch me back. Mile 1.5-2.5 seemed to be extra long! And I thought the girl told me only one mile to go, but I think she said one mile down. Gotta practice those listening skills some more! I could see girl 3 and 2 in the distance...girl 3 got closer...in fact I finished only 5 seconds behind her! Ran it in really strong, looking forward to jumping back in the lake, which I did...felt so good! I was really proud of myself. Starting to get more competitive and love the sport!
What would you do differently?:

Again..that 1/2 marathon comes back to haunt me...oh well, if I could go back I would have done it anyway. Still happy with my performance.
Post race
Warm down:

Floated around in the lake for a few minutes - thinking about how happy I am that I'm done and I can relax.

Event comments:

Small town race, but I knew that going in. I don't mind that there weren't any volunteers or water stations, there were plenty of people cheering and the setting itself was good enough for me.
