![]() Swim
Comments: Remembering the frustration of the last one, I started front and center. No way was I getting stuck behind people. I thought I would start swimming as soon as possible, but found that I was getting stepped on. Then I started digging my toes in and walking with my head just out of the water. That worked better. I found a bit of clear water pretty soon and started swimming. After that, it was easy. I got boxed in once, but that was all. Passed lots of people who had stepped over me at the start, and even passed some people from the wave in front of me. At the end, I did the same method to get out of the water. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Maybe go a little harder. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: No problems at the rack. Socks on wet feet are a challenge, but I'm just not ready to give them up. Then as I was leaving transition with my bike, I noticed that my computer needed to be reset. Resetting takes two hands. I tried to do that while jogging with the bike. It didn't work. Yep, I'm the girl that fell in transition. Hopeless. What would you do differently?: Not fall down. Seriously, what a 'tard. ![]() Bike
Comments: I am meant to ride a flat course. Forget the rolling hills! For the first time in a long while, I felt strong and competent on the bike. I passed several people, and got passed by several. I had a bottle of Accelerade and a bottle of water, but I really didn't need both. I ate half a pack of Sports Beans about half way through. The 13 miles flew by and I couldn't believe it was over so quick. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Guess I'd better not get used to flat ground. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Much better here. Racked the bike and I was off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Run
Comments: My plan was to go out easy and take walk breaks at 6 min, 15 min and 24 min. At 6 min, I felt good, so I kept going. Same for 15 min. Amazing! I walked a bit around 22 minutes, but not for long. I even passed some people. At the first mile marker, I looked at my watch and it said 10:15! What?!? I haven't run that fast in a year. My second mile was a bit slower, around 21:30. No worries. I started feeling kind of weak and light-headed about a half mile from the finish. I refused to walk and just slowed down a bit. It was not easy but I kept on going and finished with 32:15 on my watch. The run was the best part of it for me, since I've been struggling with my leg for over a year. Even better, no pain the whole time. What would you do differently?: Not a thing. I'm very pleased with the run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water, strawberries and some cookies. I was looking for Jeremy and walked a while before finding him. What limited your ability to perform faster: Face it, I'm slow. But, for my slow self, it was a great day. Event comments: I was super impressed with this race. The courses were very well marked and there were lots of volunteers. Nice food afterwards and a great hat as well as the standard tee-shirt. I'll put it on my calendar for next year for sure. Last updated: 2007-06-30 12:00 AM

This was an early morning for us. I packed the car the night before and we left the house at 4:15. Of course, traffic was no trouble at that time of day. I had a large coffee and a water before we got to the cities. Stopped at a gas station to change into my suit and we were there.
None really. Set up transition and ate a yogurt. I swam a little just to get used to the shallow water. It was like low tide at the beach, just no waves.
