Run
Comments: Ideally, I would have liked to break 25 minutes with this race, but I kinda felt this morning that it wasnt likely to happen. This is the 3rd year in a row that I have done this race and it is always tough. Not sure why, but it always seems to be hot and steamy and I have trouble with those damned little hills!! I started out with it in mind to try and stay on the heals of my friend Lynne. She is a faster runner than me and I thought if I could stay with her or at least keep her in sight, I might be able to break 25 as she is capable of a good 24 minute 5k. Well, this worked up to about 1.5 miles and then she left me in the dust!! First mile was sub 8 — 7:53 or something. Too fast!! Second mile 8:11. Third mile 8:30. Sh*t!! That won't do for sub 25. Started to lose steam at the foot of the hill that comes in the last half mile. The heat and my high heart rate were out to get me. Just tried to sustain at that point and hope that I could kick it at the end. Saw Kelly on one of the corners around mile 1.5. That was cool. She was volunteering at this race. What would you do differently?: Maybe not run that first mile quite so fast. Post race
Warm down: walked around, drank water What limited your ability to perform faster: not enough rest pre-race Event comments: Another good event by HMF! Last updated: 2007-07-01 12:00 AM

Got up reluctantly around 6:15. Had oatmeal and halfacup of black coffee. The boys drank all the damned milk again!! Tried really hard to leave on time so as not to be late and not have time to pee before the race start as happened last year.
Its quite a haul from the parking lots on Troutbrook at Uconn to Elizabeth Park. I did an easy jog to the race sight to meet with Danskin women before the race start. This race is one that we do as part of our training. Good race experience for newbies and a good time check for those more experienced. Saw Kelly!
