Run
What would you do differently?: maybe drink more prior to the race, but for this section.... nothing Transition 1
Comments: everything went pretty smooth, i just think i could have been a tick faster What would you do differently?: practice more Bike
Comments: the road was a bit rough but nothing horrible What would you do differently?: pull back on the pace a bit and drink more Transition 2
Comments: my first sub min transition (i think) What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: This is where the wheels came off in this race for me. Along the trail, the humidity was oppressive. It was so incredibly hot, i was walking shortly after mile 1 and then off and on till the turn around. What would you do differently?: Drink a lot more, train more Post race
Warm down: cross the finish line, hit the porta potty, come out of there to see Andy and a race volunteer telling me i should come with them. drink i can 't say how much fluid took 4 electrolyte pills and some pizza to start feeling normal again. What limited your ability to perform faster: heat and hydration, maybe training, it is tough to say running 8 miles is really no big deal, but maybe it is the time of day that i generally run or condiditons i run in. Event comments: this is by far the most mental effort i have had to put into a race to get to the finish line. (more than the cowtown marathon) The humidity absolutely was horrible. There needed to be more drink stations along the way. When I crossed the finish line apparently i looked pretty bad. A race volunteer and Andy brought me back to some shade and helped me get some fluid down. Then Steve, Shannon, and others that i just don't remember(sorry folks i just don't remember much) pitched in and helped me with water, electrolyte pills, vitamin water, you name it. Thank you all, this is what makes this forum and sport great. As for the race I know DA went through a ton of grief to even have a race so, I'm glad they put it on. I do however wish there would have been more opportunities for water / accelerade along the run. That would have helped some. Another item that would have helped is if the run would have been along the park road opposed to back with al of the moist ground and vegitation that rose the humidity a great deal. with that said there was likely not enough room on the road for bikes, and runners, I just don't know. All i know is that i have no desire to ever feel that bad after a race again. This was just a tough race, but i lived so i guess i'm stronger. Last updated: 2007-07-02 12:00 AM
