Age Group Rank = 30/32
Pre-race routine:

Lots of gatorade the day before. Ate normal brkfst (Cereal, milk, fruit), cup of coffee, glass of water.
Event warmup:

general stretching

Weather was wet and cool/comfortable.
Swim
  • 06m 30s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Start was by jumping into pool by individual, 10 second seperation. Flipped turned the first length and nearly choked, decided to just touch and turn, try and relax, seemed to work, swim was better after that.

Felt weird, almost weak in the legs but settled down and got into a rythem (sp). Passed a couple people on the last lap and then got stuck behind 3 people trying to exit the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Do more flip turns.
Practice more to increase speed.
Figure out where/how to get out of the pool quicker.
Group Rank: 22 of 32
Overall Ranking: 191 of 380 (guestimate)

Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Everything was soaking wet. Plenty of room. Seemed to go smooth. Got in after the swimmer in front of me and left before he did.
What would you do differently?:

Have a dry towel in a zip lock for my glasses.
Run w/ the bike exiting T1, didn't know I could...
Bike
  • 50m 20s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun, had a good time. Good mood, talked to the animals. My speed going South (outbound Pitts) felt awesome and really inspired me to push thru the wind coming back. Was riding the mountain bike so the Aero was not much of any help. Rain started on outbound side of Pitts and became torrential on the inbound side. OMG funny !! At least the rain beating down on me was a distraction to fighting the wind!
What would you do differently?:

Get a differant bike !!!!
Drink in the begining of the ride, so I didn't feel so sloshy on the run.
Group Rank: 30 of 31
Overall Ranking: 330 of 380 (guestimate)

Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Legs a little stiff. Drank too much on the bike at the end. Didn't change shoes because everything was sooo wet already.
What would you do differently?:

Use the running shoes. The flats were a little stiff.
Dry towel in bag for glasses.
Run
  • 31m 56s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a stich in R side the first half of run. Once I quit thinking about it and found someone I could pace w/ I was good. Tired during run - mental !
What would you do differently?:

Train harder !!
Group Rank: 25 of 31
Overall Ranking: 293 of 380 (guestimate)

Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got a massage ! Water, accelerade and gatorade. Felt good. Couple slices of pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The mountain bike and the mental part of the run, stich didn't help.

Event comments:

Good race ! Rain had to have had an impact, but I never saw any problems. Kudos to the organizers !
