Swim
Comments: Swim- I took it out way to hard then realized what i was doing and slowed down. Just as I did that there was a woman who was matching my speed so i stayed with her the whole way through. They havent posted the times yet but I am very interested to see my split. What would you do differently?: Not take it so hard and wait for a leader, then draft. However the visibility I was haveing a hard time with. I have to learn how to deal with the open water swims a little better. I found myself switching into breast stroke for one stroke every 300 yards to see where I was going. I think that slowed me down a bit. Transition 1
Comments: T1- The wet suit came off very easily. I was afraid I'd have to struggle w/it. My arms were like jello but some how i managed to get it together and get everything on. What would you do differently?: I will have to find something that i can wear under the wet suit to make that transition faster. Thats about it. I could care less about this transition as my arms are rubber when i get out of the water. The fact that I was out in under 5min was an accomplishment. Bike
Comments: Bike- I first lap was a nightmare. I definatly felt the swim and had a hard time adjusting. Just when I was feeling better, I down shifted and my chain fell off. I HATE MY BIKE. This will be the last year I use it for any competition. Anyway i had to stop get off my bike, put the chain back on and go. The other two laps were fine with no probs. I just tried to use the hills to my advantage as my bike is heavy....I got up to 33m/h on one of the hills. What would you do differently?: Well lets see.... I need a new bike that isnt heavy for starters and a bike chain that wont fall off.lol That was part of the problem. I have to train a little differently on the bike as this was the only sport that didnt improve.I was 3min off from last year. I need to do some training with high cadence, and build more strength in my legs. I also think I need to do longer rides as my longest ride of training was 20miles. I think next year I am going to attempt to do a few 50milers and take some spin classes. Transition 2
Comments: T2- Went fine. The only problem was finding where i put my bike. So I picked a spot, took off my helmet, gloves, tied my shoes, took a sip from the water bottle, and I was off. What would you do differently?: Nada...it went as planned. I got some more water in me and off i went Run
Comments: RUN- The first mile I adjusted to getting off the bike. The legs were wobbly. I kept a nice even pace the whole way through. No fat people passed me. I was very strong all the way through. At the end there is this gigantic hill...I almost got a cramp getting up the thing...but I ran through it. Coming in on the home stretch, I heard some guy coming up on me so I encouraged him to get closer, then i saw that he was trying to catch me so i turned on the wheels and kicked it to the finish. What would you do differently?: I didnt stick to my run plan (also known as plan A) because the bike portion murdered me. The original plan was to build into a faster pace after the 3rd mile. So I would have avged 10mins the first and 9.5 the second half. otherwise I am happy with this run. Post race
Warm down: Watched my best friend collect second for our age group. Mucho respect. Ate a slice of pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: I took the swim out too hard, I should have waited for someone to draft off of. My bike, the weight- I had dillo tires, aerobars, two water bottles,on a DB bike that is heavy to begin with- The hunt is on for a good TRI bike over the winter. Run- the sneakers gave me blisters- so I guess I need a new pair. I prob could have dropped a little more weight? Event comments: Overall great race for me. I missed my goal by 34 seconds. The time was 3hours34seconds. Next year, I will rock it. Last updated: 2007-07-02 12:00 AM
