Swim
Comments: YES... I suck at swimming. But I didn't expect to suck this bad. 999th place out of 1415 swimmers means that I actually sucked less than 416 people. Man, they really suck if I swam faster. I'm glad that they came because Dime has an easily bruised ego! I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all those who suck worse than me! What would you do differently?: I think one of my big problems was drifting out of the flow... I did fine to the first turn and then everything went to crap. I kept finding myself drifting away from where I was supposed to be heading. I'm sure that I added quite a bit of distance to this swim... but you know, I need the challenge. The more people who beat me out of the water... the more people I get to pass on the bike and run! So before the long course next month, I need to think about practicing my sighting during my open water swims. Transition 1
Comments: Oops... I couldn't find my bike... I was looking for my red bike, but there were a lot of red bikes. I was running around in circles kind of panicking... Once I found it, I had no problems, but this was a stupid-novice mistake that ate up about a minute of time! STUPID DIME What would you do differently?: make sure I have a landmark associated with my transition spot! Bike
Comments: First... I actually rode faster than this by about a minute or more... After descending from old stage and coming out of Left Hand Canyon at 36... a policeman who was directing traffic stopped me and let many cars go... He said there was an accident and that he had to get the backed up traffic through. This sucked... Other than that the ride went smoothly. I hit the 600 foot climb up Old Stage hard and then rode at a comfortable pace the rest of the way. I ate my Shot Blocks and drank most of my Gatorade and tried to prepare myself to run hard in the heat. What would you do differently?: Maybe push the envelope harder on the ride... with the sun and heat, I wasn't going to have much left for the run no matter what I did... I am pretty sure I left a little too much out on the bike course. Transition 2
Comments: not a bad transition... I could have been a bit smoother. But this was much better than transition one. What would you do differently?: run a little harder with the bike. Run
Comments: I felt ok but I could feel a cramp coming on so I kept my early pace a little slow... the cramp didn't materialize and I started to push harder around mile 3. I ran ok but in this heat I didn't have the speed that I had hoped for. What would you do differently?: I don't know. I didn't see/look for the mile markers so I didn't know my pace and just ran by feel... probably a mistake. Post race
Warm down: Put the provided for Boulder Peak ice towel on my head. Ate about 6 slices of water melon then had 3 beers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental mistakes. A horrible swim. The sweltering heat. Event comments: Overall a fun day. I'll look at this as a good training day and a learning experience. I probably will never be a good triathlete with my swimming inabilities but what the heck. I enjoy training. Even more, I am thrilled to have met, trained and raced with so many cool people (thanks BT), And I love keeping myself in shape and the overall sense of well-being that I get from it. In the big picture, racing is just a small component of why I do triathlon and a tool to track progress... nothing more. With that said... I can't wait to improve further and have my race of the season next month at the Boulder 5430 Long Course! Last updated: 2007-07-03 12:00 AM

Well, I got up and ready to go... only to have to jump started my friend Danny's Company Car... Some stupid ass monstrosity of a car called a GMC Denali. Why anyone would to choose to buy/drive one of these things is beyond me… Still, it was nice to have friend drive me up to the Boulder reservoir.
Stopped at the 7-11 had bought 2 Gatorades (one for the bike and one for the run). Ate a Hershey’s chocolate bar and a cup of sh*t coffee.
Got to transition with not much time to set-up… organized my gear, hit the port-a-potty, then walked over to the swim area.
Talked to Scott, Kenny, Mark and Tyra then swam about 100 meters to loosen up and find my "zone".
