Pre-race routine:

Breakfast 5 am. Toast with peanut butter and banana.
Slim fast 1 hr out.
Event warmup:

Light jogging.
Swim
  • 28m 42s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice easy swim. Seeded self at front of wave so I didnt' get caught up in traffic like olympic 3 weeks earlier. Got off to quick start with one other guy in wave, drafted off him most of the race. Some traffic when catching waves in front of us but not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

LOOONG run to T-1 from swim. Short run from rack to start of bike so kept shoes off bike and just put them ot at rack.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 2h 40m 49s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Took bike pretty easy. HR was high but PE was very low. Soft pedaled flats and spun up hills. Tried to even split two loop course. Came within a few seconds of doing so.
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed the flats a little more than I did. Probably could have rode a 2:35 without much trouble.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 2h 03m 34s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out ok, about 8 minute miles. Walked up first big hill, as did most people, and ran to next aid station at WVU campus. Drank too much there. Ran down to start of second loop and first 2 miles of second loop was still running but slowing down. Took too much water/sports drink at next couple aid stations. Walked last 3-4 aid stations and last big hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink as much. Should have gone out easier first 2-3 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Iced right achilles. Got massage at tent. Ate some oranges and drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fell apart on run. Didn't feel too cramped afterwards.

Event comments:

Great race, great course (other than rough road at beginning and end of bike course), great town.
