Swim
Comments: I felt really good about the swim. I was slow, as usual, but I swam freestyle the entire time and only stopped twice. At one point it got really congested and I stopped to tread water for a couple seconds to let things clear out and to avoid getting kicked in the face. The other time was when the girl in front of me somehow managed to kick just as I brought my head up to sight and I got a mouthful of river water. Blech! What would you do differently?: Learn to swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't feel like I was that slow in T1. I took plenty of time to rinse off & dry my feet before putting my shoes and socks on. Then I did have a little trouble getting my bike off the rack because someone at the last minute decided to rack their bike right next to mine, making it the 7th bike on the rack when there were only supposed to be 6 per rack. As if 6 bikes isn't tight enough! What would you do differently?: Skip drying my feet. Bike
Comments: The hills on this course made my heavy bike much more of a factor than the last race which was a flat course. For me though, this was a really good pace for me for a course with hill. What would you do differently?: New bike...which I should be getting this winter/spring. Transition 2
Comments: Racked bike, removed helmet, grabbed race belt and ran out of TA. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: As usual, the run was tough, but I really pushed myself to meet my 9:00 min/mile goal. I passed a lot of people on the run, which is a great feeling. Only walked briefly at one aid station to drink some water. Didn't wear my garmin so I didn't know until the results were posted if I met my goal or not. (I wore my stopwatch but forgot to hit stop when I crossed the finish line) What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little bit, downed a bottle of water, tried to stretch. Grabbed some post race grub which was amazing. I had a couple tiny muffins, part of a cookie, and a brownie. Yumm!! What limited your ability to perform faster: My bike. Can't wait til I get a road bike. Event comments: I thoght this was a really well run race. The volunteers were great out there on the bike course and had me laughing at some points. The post race food was above par too. I will definitely consider doing this race again next year. Woke up at 4:15 (actually managed to get a really good night's sleep), ate two pieces of toast and drank a glass of water. Pumped up my tires on the bike loaded bike onto the bike rack.
Got to the race site around 6:30 (felt rushed at my last race so was sure to get there earlier this time), set up my transition area, chatted with some other girls, and hit the lines for the bathrooms (which suprisingly weren't that bad).
None really, just the walk to the swim start.
