Age Group = 39-44
Age Group Rank = 14/19
Pre-race routine:

got to transition in plenty of time, it opened at 6:30am and closed completely at 7:45
Event warmup:

had over an hour after leaving transition and before wave starte. Spent about .5 hour in ocean, warming up, riding waves...
Swim
  • 14m 19s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

my wave clumped together in the middle, lots of contact
What would you do differently?:

start out less tentative. I was nervous about not breathing evenly, so started slow. I picked up the pace after the first marker nad felt pretty good after that.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

bike mount was up a hill - fine if I had not had my gears set so hard. Almost tipped over before I even began! Once I got started and chnaged gears I was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Check my gears before the race to make sure I could easily start up a hill!
Bike
  • 1h 07m 53s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 16.48 mile/hr
Comments:

I lost my first water bottle at about 5K. Bummer! Wanted to get it back because it was full, but there were too many people right behind me to give up any time.

At about 20K I was cruising, didn't want to take my hands off the aerobars to put my water bottle back. Hit a major pothole and my hand bounced up and smacked the bottom of my sunglasses. Result? One big black eye!
What would you do differently?:

be more carefull setting my water bottle back in the holder, and not give myself a shiner!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

long uphill at start of run very intimidating as I don not like to run up hill. Had a hard time getting my legs under me.
What would you do differently?:

not sure - run more before hand? ha-ha
Run
  • 37m 9s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

Hard run for me. Legs were tired from an all out bike, and started to get really hot. So many people passed me on the run, kind of a bummer. Felt like aI finished pretty strong (but that was the only strong part)
What would you do differently?:

train more for the run
Post race
Warm down:

pretty quick. Had a glass of water and made the big trek soen to transition to get my bike

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run was the pits - flet like no stamina.

Event comments:

very fun race venue with so many marines, hovercraft...

I think the distance was longer than 30K
Wind: Some
Course: hills to start, flat at the end, turn around a little confusing (with aid station!). Non-stop pedaling - very strong competition. Not a clsed course, and several times I came up to two riders side by side, chatting for several miles. Passed one set just as one rider pulled to the right without looking (despite my LEFT call) and nearly took me out.

Course: very confusing run course through the base. All on hard cement parking lot type surface. So many turn arounds. Between buildings, crossing over the run course in different directions? Never sure when I was near the finish line. Just when I thought I was close, more turn arounds.
