Pre-race routine:

The usual blow out of work, drive like a maniac, get caught in traffic, get home, snap orders at everyone, throw stuff in the car, sit in the passenger seat while my husband seems to be driving too slow (he's just so damned laid back!), get to the race, park too far away, not get a rack spot, no time to warm up routine.
Event warmup:

None!
Swim
  • 08m 47s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was an exercise in survival. Too many people. Was a battle from the start out to the buoy and then some. Just nuts! I couldn't really get into any sort of rhythm because there was so much contact and so little space to swim in. Was quickly out of breath and remained so until I finally got out of the water! My friend Renee and I swam from the buoy back to shore kind of side by side which was good cuz I knew she wouldn't smack me :). Seth was right there on the beach to let me know how bad my swim was! Yeah, I know — i'll have to kick some azzz on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. Maybe pick a different location to start from off to the side.

Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

I was racing tonight so very motivated to get through transitions quickly. I did okay with this one, but had a very long run to get to the mat from my spot in the "transition area" and then there is that damned run through the sand to the mounting area. I hate that!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Bike
  • 34m 34s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good getting on the bike. Just so damned glad to be done with that swim!
Passed lots of people. Then Polly went by and asked if I had been waiting for her!! Hah!! hell no!! Tried to chase her down, but she has that damned compact and no way I could stay with her on the hill! I had her in my sights all the way round til you get to that part where they squeezed into that damned cone lane where the state trooper as "directing" traffic. I got caught behind like 5 other riders as we had to go single file here. I nearly hit the damned sign they had there as I couldnt see it and it was right in the path of our oncoming bikes!! I let the state trooper know that i was not happy with the placement of that damned sign!—then I rode like hell before he could grab me by the neck and yank me off my bike!! :) This was the red light that kept me from catchin' Polly! I couldn't see here after that and knew I needed to save it for the run. She was just too fast for me!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothin!
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Another very long run back to my transition spot. People just threw their bikes down anywhere and I had to pick my way through this mine field while running with my bike! Seth was there again with commentary. I did plow over some one's bike, but it wasn't as nice as mine so its cool ;). Pretty good transtion
What would you do differently?:

Nothin'
Run
  • 27m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is always tough. Polly was just a few yards ahead of me right from the getgo—WTF!! I knew it wouldnt be smart to try and catch her just yet. I tried to focus on just finding my rhythm and getting my breathing under control. About a mile into it, I caught up with Polly and we ran and chatted for a coupla minutes and then took a wrong turn!! hah!! okay, lets focus. Back on track and working that last annoying hill, I moved a little ahead, but still was just trying to find my own comfort zone. Once, got back to road that runs along the lake, I was feeling really good and was able to pick it up a bit. I had a bit of a cramp creeping up, but I did a breathing exercise and kept it at bay. I stayed focused and try worked on getting closer to the finish. Kept an eye on my watch knowing I was well within reach of the sub 1:15. Made the turn back into the park and picked it up significantly. Saw that I could do sub 1:13 and really wanted that!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a good Lake T run. I'd love to do it faster, but I'll take this run!
Post race
Warm down:

Caught my breath. Congratulated Polly who finished seconds behind me!! She had a awesome race and will likely blow my doors off next time ;). Went back out the cheer on everyone else.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing. Too many people at times in the swim and the bike maybe but nothing really that significant

Event comments:

This fun little race series is getting too big! But, its still the most fun you can have for 20? bucks!
