Pre-race routine:

Got up at my usual 3:30 am..as is the standard becasue I don't like to sleep away from home if I can help it. Ate my 3 98%fat free eggo waffles with peanut butter, 1 cup of coffee. Then left at 4:15am to drive to the race. When I got to the race I ate 1 Snickers Marathon bar and some Infinite drink. Met a really nice BT'er, Steve in the parking lot. Porb. was not the best person to chat up. Being a kind of ADD before the race and trying not to forget anything. But he was very nice
Event warmup:

Got set up in Trans and went down to the lake to swim a little bit. Did a no-no and had new goggles but they were ok. But it was cold when I got in out of the water so I got back in to wait the race start. Can you say "pruny" :)

Comments:

Was a good swim for me and my breathing was just perfect. I felt good and generally had no prob. The race was wet suit legal but I opted not to wear one for this distance as it takes me so long to get it off. And the water felt good to me.Only had one issue that was 2 people stoped right in the middle of the swim, treding water. I understand the need to maybe catch your breath but move over a little. Then they were walking in the water along a shallow area. Not bad if they were too tired to swim, but they passed me swiming...I hate that! Other than that it was good
What would you do differently?:

Not anything, maybe think if the water feels that warm maybe wait a little longer to warm up.

Comments:

Ok trans, I was a little winded from the run from the lake to Trans...my actual swim time by my watch was 17:24 so the rest was my jog to the Trans. but I did ok and actually could jog for the first time and not walk to Trans.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Comments:

This is a great course I wish it was closer to my house. I would love to be able to rain on it.
What would you do differently?:

Know where the big hill was and not almost miss the first turn...eek! But I made it.
Transition 2

Comments:

Trans was good, I took a little extra time to put on my socks for the run. I have done thiscoures before and it is more like a trail run than a road race. I love that but I found out last month socks are a good idea. Did'nt want any more blisters.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 17m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Did this well, even though my run time are kindof slow. I felt good and not all overheated and awful. That is how I usually feel in the run. I am still working on my speed and feel like if I just keep working on it I'll pick it up. But I still feel good about it I actually passed a couple of people and ran about 90-99 percent of the time. I usually walk more.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing just working on it
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and drank ther rest of my Infinite and some water. Have some water melon and my Beef jerkey that My wonderful hubby made for me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just me

Event comments:

I love HFP races and they do a great job. I feel good about this race and felt that my training is working. Still gotta work on my speed but this will come. And I won my AG/Athena group. I did better this race then the shorter race I did last month.

Course: I love this course,,,even the big hill that I knew was on the course. I just didn't know where it was. So it was a OMG,,change from big ring to small ring and gear down...quick! It is a really nice ride, rollers and flats so a little bit of everything. I stayed in the aero bars for about 98% of the time and my new saddle was a dream. My mph was faster than I train so that was nice and I even, according to my bike computer hit a Max MPH of 37.1 mph. Whoo Hoo!My computer also read that the course was 28.93 miles. But who's counting.
