Pre-race routine:

Got up about 5 am - ate a bowl of oatmeal - loaded my supporters up & hit the road.
Event warmup:

Stretching - 25 yd swim - more stretching
Swim
  • 22m 51s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a hard time with the swim - could not get in a comfortable rythm - fought it the whole way - legs were like noodles getting out of water.
What would you do differently?:

More swimming - especially OWS
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I feel my transition was pretty good but times for transition were included in the bike times so can't judge other than how I feel I did, guess I could have looked at my watch but wasn't exactly clear headed by then.
What would you do differently?:

Try to jump on bike the FIRST time! Took me twice to get on the bike!
Bike
  • 1h 49m 18s
  • 13 miles
  • 7.14 mile/hr
Comments:

First lap was hard - still trying to catch my breath from the swim but by end of 1st beginning of 2nd I was feeling good and passing people. About 1 mile into last lap I got a flat rear tire! No prob I thought - have changed umpteen flats - but if you forget to pack correctly none of that matters! So I ran-jogged-walked the last 3 miles of my bike!
What would you do differently?:

Double - triple check my supplies bag!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Agian - time was included into my run - not sure why they did this but am sure they have their reasons.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pay attention to my OWN timing abilities. (watch!)
Run
  • 41m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

After running the last leg of the bike - I was whooped! Six miles has been my longest run ever and that was without the swim & bike before - so even though my time was slow - I am ok without because I know the circumstances ......and I FINISHED! Whoo - hoo!!!
What would you do differently?:

Try to finish the bike ON THE BIKE!
Post race
Warm down:

1/4 mile walk - gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of adequate preparation - flat tire! Not being equipped to change it!

Event comments:

I think race was well organized and was overall happy with the event. I enjoyed myself and will definitely be back next year!
