Pre-race routine:

Cheerios, banana, Clif bar, lots of water.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 09m 57s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

A PB in my worst event. Kept my form for about 350 yards, which is certainly my best effort to date. Sighting was poor as I twice found that I had to swim back into designated swim area. Went left both times.
What would you do differently?:

Finally starting to make some swimming progress. Build on this. No wetsuit. Noticed that as wetsuits were allowed, about 60% of elites wore theirs, which was much higher that age grouper percentage. Tells me that the speed and form gain, which for me is tremendous with suit, is worth the extra minute getting it off, even in such a short swim.

Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Tried to put on gloves, but abandoned this after about 10 wasted seconds. Got there early enough to take an end spot almost exactly half-way into trans area, right by a telephone pole, which was a nice landmark.
What would you do differently?:

Forget the gloves. If I crash, I'm just going to deal with busted up hands. Water bottle with spray tip might have been useful as there was a lot of beach sand on the feet.

Bike
  • 32m 24s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.37 mile/hr
Comments:

A PB for pace on the bike, as I broke 20 mph for first time ever in a race.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, keep at it training wise so I can get that pace up in the low 20's.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Fairly good transistion. Again, the telephone pole helped me find my spot. I probably exhibited a slightly bad form as I realized that I was out in the lane a little a tying my sneakers. I don't think I slowed anyone down, but clearly something I don't want to do again.
Run
  • 22m 2s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt slow, but a third PB today, so I can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

As always, more training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim - as always.

Event comments:

A very nice little race. I loved the neighborhood feel. Great for first timers, of which there appeared to be quite a few. Only my third sprint ever, so it was a great fit for me. Organizers were a little slow getting the swim started, but with 3 PB's today, I have little to complain about. Things are starting to come together for me in this great sport. Swim, swim, swim, swim, and swim some more. This event took place in the middle of me fighting a chest cold.
