Swim
Comments: Basically did it with only 1 arm... right arm had no power nor lateral movement. It did not hurt; which was a plus. 1200 swimmers in the water was a rush.. there were bodies everywhere, clawing, pulling, thrashing. It felt like a nest of water snakes having an orgy. What a rush!!! What would you do differently?: Use my right arm if it had any power. Probably will go up 2 days earlier and practice wave swimming. Transition 1
Comments: First time the wet suit wouldnt come off my ankles. It was a looooong run from the water to the T area. Once out of the transition area I flew onto the bike and up the sharp hill out of the lot. What would you do differently?: Put some bag balm around my neck and on my ankles. Bike
Comments: Wide range of cycling abilities. Too many novices blocking the passing lane for long periods of time. Does anynone know about the 15 second passing rule? Handlebars came loose in the first 2 miles and I had to ride much more conservatively then I would normally. Then bar tape started to unravel on one of the aerobar grips. I had a negative split until 5 miles left. Too much congestion and bad roads eliminated the negative split. I had a bottle of pedialtye I intended to put in my rear pocket but forgot. As a result I was getting 0 sodium replenishment. This affected my running, where I had to stop and repeatedly consume 3 endurolytes every half hour. What would you do differently?: Use an 11/21 instead of a 11/25, use my time trial bike. Sandals are too heavy... need to get some custom lightweight plastic sandals made with spd or speedplay on the bottom. Put the extra bottle with my helmet so as to not forget. Transition 2
Comments: I really had a bad bike rack location. Outermost position 1/3 of the way from the swim entrance. Bikes were close together and hard to extract due to congestion. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I normally run barefoot but due to the Ironman rule that says I have to wear shoes I wore Nike Frees which are basically a velcrod sock with a rubber minimal sole. I did not wear socks. Course was terrific, canopied alot and good scenic views of the lake. Really felt comfortable. What would you do differently?: Probably wear socks. Some sand got in the shoes and became abrasive. Thought about taking the shoes off and just carrying them. After all the rule says you have to have shoes, it doesnt say you have to wear them. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water, a banana and walked back to my stuff in the Trans area. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough sodium, loose equipment, bum right arm. Event comments: I'll be back Last updated: 2007-07-15 12:00 AM

Went for a 5 minute swim in Lake Michigan to acclimate to the water and the waves.
