Swim
Comments: Was my first race in a river and had to deal with a current. it wasn't strong, but something to at least deal with. The biggest problem that I had was that i split my middle toe open on the start and had a flap of skin swishing around while I was swimming. The first leg was really strong, caught some of the straglers from the wave before. I probably went out too hard and I had to fall back bit to get my HR back down to a reasonable level. Slowed down a bit, concentrated on swimming smooth and things got better. What would you do differently?: Not cut my toe, it hurt like hell and was very annoying to swim with. Transition 1
Comments: The time was just an estimate, since this tri counted swim out and bike start they didn't calculated transitions. I spent a good minute just on fixing my toe up. I was frustrated since first aid was like 300 yds. away, I just yelled to se if someone had a bandaid. Someone did, wrapped my toe and slipped on my shoes. I actually did quite well in the transition outside of the toe incident. What would you do differently?: Not much. I could have trimmed some time off by concnetrateing a little more at the task at hand, but my toe kind of took that ocus away. Bike
Comments: My bike was pretty strong. i was happy with the results, event with the injury. My toe stopped throbbing at around mile 8. Stayed in aero much of the time and really getting out of it around corners, which were all right angle turns. What would you do differently?: I am thinking about looking into upgrading my gearing a little bit. This couse was flat and I was kinda stuck between gears. One was too easy and a higher cadence, while the next one up was too strenous and kept my cadence down. I needed something in between. Transition 2
Comments: I was pretty quick on this one. It was my first race with lugz speed laces. Awesome! Just slip on and go! Took a drink at the watering station and headed out. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My first race with the HRM and I can say that it really helped me. When I came into T2 high and then I ran at a pace that could bring my HR down to a reasonable level. Once I got there I maintained my pace and ran the entire time without stopping! A first for me. i was pretty proud of mysel. The only time i stopped was to take a drink at the half way point. What would you do differently?: It was a personal best, so I can't say too much. I missed placing 3rd overall by 16 seconds, so the stoppiong and my toe issue really could have gotten me into the hardware! Post race
Warm down: Powerade, Peach and Peanut Butter Bagel What limited your ability to perform faster: 30 lbs. Event comments: A great beginner race that is flat and organized by the local YMCA. I am doing it again next year. Last updated: 2007-07-16 12:00 AM

Went out for pizza and beer the night before. Had an average night's sleep at a buddy's parents house.
We rode to the race for about a mile. Registered and then took a 6 mile easy ride and then jogged lightly for about a mile.
