Swim
Comments: The swim was hard, being my first. I just got in and swam to get it done; no focused effort at having a good time. I just wanted to not drown! Hard to pass people while swimming, also hard to follow the bouys. Personal work needed on that. What would you do differently?: Swim harder! Transition 1
Comments: I'm not even going to post my time. I was stunned from the swim and hardly knew which way was up. I ran into the transition area and then didn't know what to do. Couldn't get the sand off of my feet and was concerned that needed to be done completely. I could have shaved 5 minutes off! What would you do differently?: Horrible for timing. Don't even know what would make it better. Focus, I guess! I saw others with a tray of water for their feet- I might try that next time. And maybe no socks. I'll have to try running with no socks. Bike
Comments: I didn't exert myself on this, which I should have. I felt really good about the time since i haven't trained hardly at all for the bike. I had a really good gear ratio going, which I was pleased with. I think I found my strong event! What would you do differently?: I'm definitely going for some spinning classes for endurance and strength. I could make up a lot of lost swim time here and I really enjoyed it. Transition 2
Comments: Still didn't know what to do with myself here. I needed more of a sense of urgency. I was just so darned amazed that I was still standing, I didn't know what to do with my hands. What would you do differently?: Focus! Run
Comments: I should have just kept pace - tried to bump it up a notch after mile 2 and had to walk to get the HR back down. Lost some time there. I was amazed at how short the miles seemed after biking. The scenery lent itself more to a casual walk than a Triathlon race! I was startled that my overall pace wasn't that different from training. What would you do differently?: I need some interval training. I ran more than I thought I would be able to, but at the same time I wanted to run the distance and didn't manage that. Post race
Warm down: Cried. What limited your ability to perform faster: Familiarity with the sport. I wasn't sure I'd have enough energy left so I held back on everything. I didn't really race to get a good time, I raced to get through the distance. Now that I know, I can race a little differently. Event comments: I'll be there next year!
