Swim
Comments: Totally forgot everything I learned. Started gulping water and just resorted to survival. Expended way to much energy for an easy swim. I was pretty worn out when I got out of the water. I had tried to start off to the side to be away from the flailing arms. But somehow, I ended up right in the middle of the ruckus and too inexperienced to survive. Everytime I tried to breath, I caught a mouthful of water. Ended up with my head out of the water and struggled to get a stroke in. It was also the first time I wore a wet suit. It was a full and I was fighting the range in motion issues. Resorted to side stroke to get through the course... started this about half way. But then the side stroke, I was kicking too much and my right leg started cramping. What would you do differently?: Swim properly!!! stay to the side. NEED to practice OPEN WATER SWIMS. I will say it again I NEED TO PRACTICE IN OPEN WATER WARM UP Transition 1
Comments: Had cramp in right leg. Massaged out. Very tired from swim. Took a couple deep breaths and drank water. Walked bike out of T1. I got the suit off as soon as I was on the beach... That went pretty well. I did have a little fear of not being able to get out of the suit What would you do differently?: If cramping again, try stretching a little.. I just massaged and walked around. Need to speed up. Had a tri-suit on so I didn't need to change clothes Bike
Comments: I am very happy with the bike. This was the fastest that I have every rode. I was very happy that I stayed out of trouble. NO Flats, I didn't fall down. I didn't cause any accidents. I believe that I rode a little too hard, but I wanted to make up time from the swim. Right leg started bothering me again.. but for most of the bike it was ok What would you do differently?: Need power workouts. Attack hills more aggressively Transition 2
Comments: I took it easy in transition. The leg was still wanting to cramp. But I got out pretty good. What would you do differently?: I need to practice transitions Run
Comments: Leg cramped up real bad as soon as I got out of transition. Stopped and walked it out. Started running slowly, but the leg felt like it was on the verge of doing it again. At every water stop. I walked, drank fluids and then started running again What would you do differently?: Find a better way of dealing with cramps Post race
Warm down: none What limited your ability to perform faster: Horrid swim. Lacked power on bike and was too worn out on the run. Event comments: only negative thing to say about this course is that it ate up a lot of bikes. It was an abandoned highway segment and that was awesome. But the road was really tore up in spots and there were a ton of orphaned water bottles on the course and a LOT of people with flats Last updated: 2007-07-18 12:00 AM
