Swim
Comments: Swimming is my limiter. This was my first race, but not my first swim, in my new wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Start taking lessons sooner!! Even though I beat my time last year by 6min, I could have gone faster, and want to keep practicing to get better in the water. Transition 1
Comments: A pretty long run from water to transition, but it was on carpet. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Bike
Comments: I just got my tri bike the week prior, and only had three rides under my belt, and none this hilly. I'm still getting used to the new geometry and position. What would you do differently?: Well, I didn't taper at all, and did a 3hr, hard ride the day before. I could have gone faster, if my legs weren't trashed. But I didn't "race" on the bike in order to save my legs and avoid injury. Transition 2
Comments: I've gotten pretty good at my T-1's. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Like the bike, I didn't push the run at all. I basically jogged it at a comfortable pace. Last year, I cramped, so this year I used a fuel belt to avoid dehydration. What would you do differently?: I could have pushed it, but didn't want to risk injury in a "C" race. Post race
Warm down: Stretched. Ate some cookies and bananas at the finish line. Packed up my gear, and we all headed to McDonald's as my daughters' reward for being so good and cheering fo me during the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a poor swimmer. Otherwise, if I had raced and pushed harder, I could have finished at least 8min. faster. But getting older and wiser, I held back, knowing that I'm in the middle of another training plan. In years' past, I would have risked injury and went all out. I had alot of fun!!! Event comments: See above. This is a great race and alot of fun. The field grows each year, and is getting stronger. Last updated: 2007-07-18 12:00 AM

We (me, wife, and two young daughters) stayed in a Country Inn about 5mi away. We woke at 5am to get everyone ready to head over. I ate a PB sandwhich, banana, and sipped water.
No real warm-up, just stretched.
This was a "C" race for me, as I've just gotten a new tri bike to get accustomed to. Plus, I'm in the middle of a build phase in my HIM training plan. This race was just another training day.
I did it last year, and love the event and venue.
