Swim
  • 44m 39s
  • 1600 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Someone kicked my hand as I was rounding the 2nd bouy and broke my finger. I almost cried. I almost quit. By the time I reached the start of the second lap, the cold water had numbed it significantly and so I continued. My times reflected this.
What would you do differently?:

Don't break my hand.
Transition 1
  • 04m 33s
Comments:

I don't know how to jump onto my bike. I really struggled to get my suit off and my helmet and shoes on one handed. I was really slow!
What would you do differently?:

Don't break my finger

Comments:

struggled to open gels with the wrong hand. I stopped once to do it rather than land in the ditch and then abandoned fueling altogether. I paid for this later.
What would you do differently?:

Don't break my hand
Transition 2
  • 04m 21s
Comments:

Again struggling to do this one handed. My finger was a little purple sausage by now. I don't know how to undo my shoes while in motion.
What would you do differently?:

Don't break my finger
Run
  • 1h 01m 2s
  • 5.6 miles
  • 10m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I like this run. It is one of my favorites. I walked more than I would have liked, but I wouldn't change that. I was babying my knee as it has been giving me grief and I didn't want to seriously hurt it 3 weeks before my iron
What would you do differently?:

Under the circumstances, nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had to be really creative with my broken finger. I enjoyed the challenge, but I wouldn't want to do it that way again. I also had Mono last month and my training has been a challenge. I look forward to next year and giving this another go.

Event comments:

I have enjoyed this race every year.
