Pre-race routine:

Slept well. Up a little to early. Had a piece of bread with PB and butter. Bobbystop and lied back down. Waited for Mike who got speeding ticket. Bad boy! He was trying to pick me up on time. Registered, marked and YES a PINK cap. I'm tried of having to where silver.
Event warmup:

Swam couple hundred yards and stretched.
Swim

  • 3520 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

The wave started well. We had lots of room so running over anybody was not needed. Had a spot in the middle and got a good start. THe water was shallow and the guy next to me dolphined. It does work to increase speed. The chop at the start was light. The big problem with the chop was it was hitting us from the side. Drank a little water now and then. Figured its the same water out of my tap so with two miles to swim could use a little. As we got farther out the chop increased and breathing was a little tricky. Out was OK since it was away from my breathing side. The return to shore was more difficult. Danielle and I swam close the whole race eyeing off each other. I needed to think hard to kick as the wetsuit taught me not to. I could feel the different from the deep water and shallow water speed. On the final lap I stayed just ahead of Danielle till the shallow stuff. I could see another pink cap coming up. Of course it was Paul from our club. He always put on a nice kick at the end and smokes me in the pool. He did the same. Beat me out of third in the age group. I tried my best to pick it up but just not enough in the tank. Danielle got me too. Lots to think about while you stare at the bottom. Thinking Mike told me I could run faster wasn't one of them.
What would you do differently?:

Try to throw some breath stroke in to replenish the O2 better.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung with M-daddy. Sneered at Paul. Went and got a cup of coffee. Decided not to stay for pizza as that probably wouldn't sit well on our ride around two lakes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inability to remember to kick.

Event comments:

I had a good time. Wished I had done a little better. Did make my goal of under an hour. Nice to have M-daddy there, sorry about the ticket. Thanks for the ride.
