Swim
Comments: Im glad I got a good WU in because last race I skipped the swim warm up and was hurting from starting out too fast. Waiting start. Started off good but behind a slower swimmer who was giving my arms some good kickings.I attempted to swim around him to the right at which point I seen a black object through the murky water and was nailed in the Rt. hip by a piling. It left a good scratch but I just kept churning along. Passed him and a few others. After the 2nd bouy on the turn back in it thinned out enough where I didnt have to fight anymore. Now I had a good rythm and my breathing was regulated good. It was obvious that this swim was not 300meters. I was tword the front of the pack and my swim time was calculated at 2:30/100 yards where it seemed to be around 1:38/1:40. What would you do differently?: Not to much differently overall a good swim. My better of the 3 legs for this race. Transition 1
Comments: 2/21 in AG for T1. T1 started at the exit of the water. Then it was about 75 yards uphill and through rocks/gravel around a building and through a gate to the bikes. I left my sandals on the hill right before the rocks so I could run over them without it slowing me down. Snapped on my helmet and grabbed my bike and was off as fast as I could have. Not a fast T1 but was one of the fastest for what it consisted of. Finishing the swim and running up a hill did a little number on my heart rate though. What would you do differently?: Not much. I am glad I warmed up before. Starting a swim with fighting, sighting, and a strong start without a warm-up pooped me out quick last race. Bike
Comments: It was hard to get off to a good start because of 2 speed bumps and rough roads. Had a head wind for about 7 out of the 12 miles. The roads going out seemed a lot more rough than coming back. I had a hard time finding a good pedal stroke with the bumps. On the turn in after mile 7 a tailwind hit me on the way back AVGing 20.5-22 mpg. However I felt I emptied too much from the tank on the way out from the headwind and bumps and I didnt have much left to utilized the tailwind more. I was a little disappointed in my bike for this race. Not putting the proper training really shows. I seen about 4 possums that got ran over by cars in the streets and we being picked apart by crows. Most of the coarse was along corn fields. What would you do differently?: Ride more outside before this race. It has been raining the last 2.5 week and I havent been outside on the bike since. Transition 2
Comments: 5/21 for T2. I feel a good T2. Speed bumps slowed me down a bit before then I tried to pick it up till the line, then I relized I didnt unstrap my feet from my shoes. So I slowed down a bit again to do so and did it in record time just before the line and did a quick dismount What would you do differently?: remember to unstrap my shoes earlier. I think focusing on the speed bumps through me off. Run
Comments: I am dissappointed in my run this race. However, it was held on gravel so it kind of felt like I was running and not going anywhere. It was hard to get a good push off on loose rocks. Yet I do believe I lost a some fitness in a running being I had injured toes the last two weeks and training has not been sufficent. Enough of the excuses, I am just not in as good of shape as I started the season off in. What would you do differently?: Do more speed work in my training and do more training. Post race
Warm down: At the end of the race I just wanted to dump my head in the ice chest. I was hot. I poured some water on my head and drank a few. Talk to a few guys from Team Risning Sun about the race. Found my keys. Got some grub and headed home. No awards to stick around for, but I was glad because I had a long drive home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and surface for bike and run. Event comments: Race was well done by Tri-Cajuns. A lot of volunteers and seem real organized. The coarse was a little more difficult than what Ive raced before but the concept was good, being a cheaper race with no fanciness just so people could enjoy some extra racing. Woke up at 5:30 at uncle Keiths, showered ate banana and 2 peanutbutter toasts. Left around 6:05 arrived about 6:45 and set up bike. Seen members from TRS. Seen the Bears who were there volunteering. Scoped out the swim and planned out T1.
Light jogged for about 6 min. around the start of the bike. Accidently seen a woman fixing her top who was trying to hide. She laughed and said she was busted. I told her I didnt see anything which unfortunatly was the truth. Then did about 5 min of swimming. Skipped the bike WU b/c last race my spot on the bike rack got jacked and I didnt want to have to go through that again.
