Swim
Comments: Extremely difficult swim in terms of navigating through the water with other swimmers all attempting to merge together to get the shortest route to the first bouy. Very difficult to see in the open water of the lake and needed to stop quite a bit to see where I was going. Was jostled, hit and kicked a couple of times because of the merge factor and lack of visibility . Difficult first open water swim...as I said to Lynde...I was concentrating on surviving not my stroke. I think it'll get better though...I did learn quite a bit. What would you do differently?: I would all out sprint the first 100 yards in order to get some sort of seperation. I would also alter my breathing where I am breathing and looking forward every so often instead of stopping and treading water or swimming breaststroke. Transition 1
Comments: I was slow in T1 raking 123. And to make things worse I fell coming out of the timing gate trying to click in. I couldn't recover after not watching where I was going and it cost me. Had to just take the hit because it was too late to move or click out. Bad thing was I fell on a huge log that was running along the curbside. Gel packet in hand and it went all over my hand and handlebars...sticky ride to say the least. What would you do differently?: Not Fall and I would pick up the pace getting in and out. Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good for the entire ride. Was able to ride with pretty much the same four guys for the entire course rotating the lead a number of times. What would you do differently?: I may have pushed a bit harder on the way back in but that may be overshooting considering I still had the run. Transition 2
Comments: Who thought a transition could get worse...but my T2 was brutal! I ranked 269th and was way to unorganized. I need to work on this quite a bit and get a routine that works for me both in and out of T2. What would you do differently?: Everything! Run
Comments: It took me awhile to get my legs under me after the bike however, I was able to run a pretty decent pace considering how I thought I was running at the time. I finished strong and after the race I felt like I had some left in the tank but I didn't want to push to early and fall out. What would you do differently?: I may pick up the pace a bit earlier and I would have attempted to drink a bit more than I did at the water station hand-offs. Post race
Warm down: Nothing --- which is terrible and I paid for it later. Event comments: A great first experience! Last updated: 2007-07-21 12:00 AM

Had an early breakfast at Rusty's which included a WW Bagel, water, oatmeal and a banana.
Arrived at 6:30am and biked down to the check-in area and picked up my information, packet and got marked up(#240).
Went and set up my transition area - layed everything out and then simply relaxed while talking with another 1st timer named Frank.
Went down and checked out the lake and walked around a bit. Used the restroom twice before the race.
Lynde and Camryn showed up and I was able to hang out with them for a bit which was wonderful as well as relaxing.
I went for a brief, very brief warm-up swim.
Then, I simply waited!
