Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45 headed to Lawrence from Blue Springs. Ate half bagel w/peanut butter and small organge. Drank water/gatorade but not too much. Met up with Danny aka KC Guy. Stood in line for about 25 minutes for the johnny on the spot. They only had 4!!!!!!!
Event warmup:

Stretched. Got in the lake and swam around. Seemed calm and I thought I was going to rock on! Water felt warm and it was great!

Major disappointmnet. Not sure what the heck happened here. I still can't relax and get comfortable in open water. So different from the pool. I thought I was going to do great and instead I stunk or shall I say SUNK!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Learn to relax and make the transition from the pool to the Open Water. In the pool I do this distance just under 15 minutes!!!! You take 9 minutes off my time and that moves me up about 3 places in my age group. I can live with that. I got to get out to do more open water swimming or I am always going to be a BOPer

Bring a jug of water to wash the sand off my feet.

You know I wasn't suprised by my below average performance. I know I wasn't prepared for the bike portion so I can't complain about a bad performance. I did have fun and I made the best out of it so I'm content.
What would you do differently?:

I have to start climbing hills better and maintain a nice good cadence. I know I can improve here with hard work and determination.

Can't believe I made a perfect dismount off my bike as I was coming in. Wow. I still can't believe it because I have never practiced it. I saw the guy in front of me do it and I thought hey I can do that too. Struggled a little to get shoes on and laces tight.
What would you do differently?:

Have my Transition area laid out better. I forgot my running cap and had a hard time getting my shoes and laces tied just right.

Can't believe I had to walk up the hill. That hurt my time in a major way. Course wasn't too challenging other than that hill.

Do more BRICKS!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The last two weeks of my training took a hit due to vacation and family committments. What can I say other than I have to figure out a way to get my training in. I still had fun though!

Event comments:

The finishing was a disappointment, lack of volunteers, and the race wasn't very organized. Of course, its just my second race :)

Course: The course was very hilly but I thought I did good considering I wasted 25 minutes of energy in the water. Overall I felt the course was challenging and I knew I wasn't as prepared for the bike but was content.

Course: Course started off with an unexpected hill!!! OMG it about killed me. I had to stop and walk halfway up it other wish I would have done the run in 30 minutes easily. Off road trail caught me off guard but it felt good on the feet. Turnaround was unclear to me and I took a guess and was right!
