Swim
Comments: Hey, I didn't die. :) Well, I way over estimated my ability here, and it didn't take long to figure that out. I can swim, it's just that I am so out of shape. After a few boat lenghts, it became clear that all I was focusing on doing was finishing the swim, forget about my time. I think I used every stroke I know, except for the doggy paddle. What would you do differently?: SWIM MORE!!!! I will be going to the gym and geting my swimming to where it needs to be. Transition 1
Comments: I felt my first T1 went well. Suit came off pretty easily. I sat down to take it off my feet and put my cycling socks and shoes on. Had some water and a Gu. Grabbed the bike and maybe had to move 30 feet before getting on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: First a comment about the timing. The bike time includes the 3 block run from the swim to the transition area, plus all of T1, the actual bike portion, and then T2. The clock doesn't stop for the bike and Start for the run untill you actually start out on the run. My ride went well. I passed about a dozen people. Tried to catch this one guy which took awhile only to find out he wasn't in the race! He was just out for his Sunday morning ride. What would you do differently?: Maybe pushed it a little harder. I could have given it more in hind sight. I had the most fun on the bike during the entire race. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went quick. Just a change of shoes, off with the helmet, on with the race belt, and a quick drink of water. Run
Comments: I don't run. I haven't run. This was a jog then walk, jog then walk type of race. I think I actually passed 4 or 5 people and I got passed by 3. Felt like I was giving it all I had. But I did leave enought for a sprint to the finish to pass my final 2 people. What would you do differently?: Train, get back into shape. Run more!! Post race
Warm down: My friend Jason met me at the finish line with a cold beer. Probably the best beer I've had in awhile. Walked around, noticed that most people had left already, including Abbie. Next year I hope to finish earlier so I can enjoy the scene and people after the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm out of shape. Although I think I did OK for having only two weeks from the time Jason got me into this thing until race day. Event comments: Overall it was a blast. This was my first and as I said I didn't have much training. It was a great feeling to cross that finish line and I look forward to doing it again, although much faster. Woke up at 4:45am, way to early for me. I was already packed and ready to go, just needed to make breakfast. I ate a bagel and cream cheese with some water and waited for my friend Jason (the one who somehow got me to do this) to pick me up. On the way to the race we drove the bike course because it had been awhile since I saw it, and he had never seen it.
Racked my bike, setup my stuff, got my number, met my first BT'er in person, AbbieR. It was great to meet someone else there at the race, It helped to keep me relaxed by having people to talk to. Probably should have done some actual warmup.
