Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 AM!! Had two pancakes with peanut butter on them and some gatorade. Loaded bike and drove downtown.
Event warmup:

Probably should have warmed up but basically just walked around. Left my water bottle at transition had to get some water. By the time I went to the bathroom for the second time my wave was up.
Swim
  • 34m 42s
  • 750 meters
  • 04m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Couldn't get any worse than this. I was calm at the beginning but then had a major panic attack. Couldn't breath. Forgot how to swim! Thank god for lifeboats because I hung on to each and everyone of them. I didn't think I would last. I just wanted to finish. I was a little embarrased but I did it.
What would you do differently?:

Everything. Swim Lessons. Swim lessons. More Swimming!!!!!!!!!
Transition 1
  • 06m 46s
Comments:

I took longer than expected. One, because the run to my bike was 450+ yards. And, two, I felt like sXXt! I sat down to put my shoes on and ate some granola.
What would you do differently?:

Run to my bike, it would have knocked a few minutes off.
Bike
  • 48m 18s
  • 13.64 miles
  • 16.94 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt okay on bike but didn't go as fast as I would have liked. I think I topped out at 22 mph at one time but was more like 16-17 mph. My bike was okay except there was a few times my gears shifted as though the chain wasn't on right.
What would you do differently?:

Gotten a full bike tune up. Work on my cadence. On the downhills I just coasted when I could have gotten some good speed on.
Transition 2
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

This was an okay transition except for the fact that some a-hole put their bike on my spot. I had to push it out of the way to get my stuff.
What would you do differently?:

Quicker?
Run
  • 36m 7s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 13s  min/km
Comments:

I was slow. I walked way too much. I felt spent after the bike. Plus I had to use the bathroom. I waited until after mile 2 then I used a porta-potty 200 yards off course. But I had to go!!
What would you do differently?:

Not stop so much. I don't know why I did it maybe I wanted to get refreshed but I should have just kept going.
Post race
Warm down:

Felt tired but was excited to finish. Drank a bunch of water and then got a massage. Also went to first aid because I cut my toes up along sides of the lakefront holding on the ropes for rest.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim. I think if I had a better swim I would have been more confident with the rest of the race. Also I don't think I pushed myself hard enough!

Event comments:

I thought the race path coming out of the transition 2 was too narrow. Too many people walking across the path. The bike was okay but Lake Shore Drive sucks for biking. Not a very smooth road!
