Pre-race routine:

This race has lots of waves, transition closes at 5:45, the Pro's start at 5:55 but my wave only got going at 8:23. I took plenty of warm clothes and after setting my gear up I found a park bench and rested until about 7:45.

Breakfast was toast, peanut butter, NO coffee, then two bananas before the race and a bottle of sports drink.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 17m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim is super fast, I stayed on the barge until the start then jumped in. I was fast in the swim and did not find anyone to draft off.
What would you do differently?:

This is a PR and very hard to beat.
Transition 1
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

Very long transition
What would you do differently?:

running with MTB shoes is easier
Bike
  • 1h 11m 41s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I really liked this ride, I did loose my energy bar and a gu, due to hitting a bump but I still had one gu left. I rode hard but not too hard. Also had a Aero helmet.
What would you do differently?:

I rode my regular road bike with clip on aero bars, would prefer a Tri Bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

missed my rack (must take a marker next time) then had to dodge under another rack.
What would you do differently?:

MTB shoes are easier to run in
Run
  • 47m 14s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I did far better then I thought I would in the run. It was hot and I thought I would be much slower but it worked out well.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder for the last three miles, there is spare juice in the tank.
Post race
Warm down:

Big crowds, must find and set a place to meet with family next year. I was lucky to find them. I did not eat anything after the race as we left to go to a playground.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Push Push Push

Event comments:

This race is great and a must for all.
