Overall Rank = 325/724
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 53/109
Pre-race routine:

Ate bowl of cereal, rode bike to race site, and hung out with friends.
Event warmup:

None, other than ride to the race site.
Swim
  • 16m 55s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I meandered back and forth through the course way too much. I needed to pick my head up more often to stay on track. I also got caught up with the prior two waves in the second half of the course. Overall, not bad for swimming only four times this year
What would you do differently?:

Swim more and stay on course.
Transition 1
  • 03m 46s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 55m 56s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 16.66 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt more comfortable on this bike leg than any prior races. I probably could have pushed it a little harder, but it was a great ride. There was a lot of people on the bike course, which made it challenging. I had a hard time getting started because the start was a little tight and people were taking a while to get on their bikes and up to speed. It was also congested at the turn arounds, so you had to slow down.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this was a great ride for me.
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 33m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I was finally able to run the entire run. I was slower than I was hoping for, but given the knee issues and shin splints that I've had this year, I was happy.
What would you do differently?:

The run is my limiter. I'm fairly competitive in the swim and the bike, so if I could find a way to get my run times down I would improve significantly. For the last three years, I have been battling shin splints, which significantly limits my running during training.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Deger, sat in the shade, drank lots of water and ate the post-race food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I came down with a cold this week, so I wasn't 100%. I didn't do nearly as much training as I should have, but once I finished physical therapy and due to my schedule, I really only had two days a week when I could train. Hopefully next year, I'll be healthy and injury-free. With proper training, I hope to continue to improve. This was by far my strongest performance combined on the first two legs, so I'm happy.

Event comments:

This is a great race, especially for first-timers. The organizers go out of their way to make sure everyone is prepared before walking into transition.
