Swim
Comments: Having never swam in a tri, I was just trying to stay out of other folks way and not go out too fast. My goggles let in water for the first half of the race - this had never happened to me before. It was a bit frustrating to continue stopping to drain and reseal. I didn't let it bother me though. What would you do differently?: check my goggle seal before the start. Work on a faster turn over. I didn't know how fast to go and still have energy to complete the race, so I ended up going to slowly. Transition 1
Comments: Long time. I was in no real hurry - just trying to enjoy the event. I used my drinking water to rinse my feet. What would you do differently?: Have water for feet rinsing, so I don't waste my drinking water. Decide ahead of time if I need to wear a camelbak or just use water bottles. Bike
Comments: This was the furthest I had biked. I certainly saw the advantage of a road bike over a mt bike. I went after it pretty hard though, trying not to fall to far behind. What would you do differently?: get a road bike Transition 2
Comments: I had my running shoes on for the bike portion - no bike shoes - so my transition was easier. What would you do differently?: suck down one of those power gels at this point. Run
Comments: I was motivated to catch all the folks that blew me away on the bike. I caught a few of them. I had ridden pretty hard and was concerned about running out of gas at this point, so I didn't go to hard on the way out. I picked it up a little on the way in, but also tried to enjoy the event. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Continue to get to know my body's limits better. Post race
Warm down: Drank some gatorade, stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Unknowns. Mt. Bike. I feel much more prepared to actually compete in my next race. I look forward to that! Event comments: Great first race for a beginner like me. I had fun and am already planning for another. Last updated: 2007-07-26 12:00 AM

This was my first triathlon. My brother was in town, so he woke up early (0515) and rode with me to the race. Once we found parking, the check in was a breeze. This is when I realized this race was not the off-road, XTERRA-type race I thought it was...oh, well. The marker chick noted my big full-suspension mt bike and said I would be in for a workout...
I spent most of my time checking out what the other folks were doing, as I wasn't exactly sure were I should be and what I should be doing. I got in the water and did a very short warm up with some stretching.
